Re: Seneca College Airline Pilot Flight Operations Diploma

How would you propose companies determine in a half hour interview if you have the ability to learn, without using a degree as a frame of reference?
How come I have flown for some of the worlds biggest companies and was never asked about my education background???

Not even once.

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday

When do you go around? What do you need to see? I go around when I do not have sufficient visual contact to see the landing surface I want to land on clear enough to safely judge my position from. I was doing non precision ADF approaches flying a transport category airplane for an airline in the la...

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday

Brutal spinning.......Trudeau could take lessons...
Yeh, with that mindset making excuses for airline pilots wrecking perfectly serviceable airplanes while flying them visually I would rather drive than fly with them.

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday

They had, or thought they had, the runway environment (lights) in sight at MDA. They continued the approach. If they were continuing visual why did they fly into the ground so far short of the runway? There's nothing in the CARs saying you need to have the PAPIs in sight to descend below MDA. (But ...

Re: Seneca College Airline Pilot Flight Operations Diploma

I realise it is to late to make any difference now, but I have a question.

Had I gone beyond grade school would I have been a better pilot?

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday

At MDA (the last listed point on the vertical profile published on the approach plate) you are supposed to be visual with the runway and continue visually. You use the PAPI to keep the correct vertical profile.
And has been thus forever.

Re: Seneca College Airline Pilot Flight Operations Diploma

There are many people who have not received degrees or even high school education due to being born into a situation where the family just did not have the economic means to provide their children with higher education. Yet a lot of these people did manage to self educate and become very successful ...

Re: Seneca College Airline Pilot Flight Operations Diploma

The notion often claimed that something worthwhile was achieved by attaining a degree of any kind, is offensive in the extreme to those who have achieved significant careers, in any field.
Especially in the field of aviation where the only education needed is the ability to read and write.

"Hand flying the portion below mins"
So they are maintaining their hand flying skills by flying the last 10 seconds of the flight? Wow, that's a lot of hand flying.

Re: Updated MCAS ‘Safe’ Says MAX Technical Team

Here is a question that I have.

Is there a downside to being able to hand fly an airplane?

As far as I can determine there are no certified fully automatic machines flying yet, or are there?

Re: Updated MCAS ‘Safe’ Says MAX Technical Team

Beyond any doubt fully automated airline category airplanes is the future of airline flying. In fact I hope to live to see it happen. For me it will be quite the experience to have been in aviation and having actually flown from the age of " Radio Range Navigation " to the age of fully automatic fly...

Re: Updated MCAS ‘Safe’ Says MAX Technical Team

Aviation is dynamic, there are risks, identifying and mitigating risks is the business. Never hand flying is a risk of its own and potentially much more unsafe. Whatever 'danger' passengers endure while a pilot (ahem) pilots the airplane, is easily trumped by the better levels of competence and saf...

Re: Updated MCAS ‘Safe’ Says MAX Technical Team

Pardon my dissent, but we are paid to fly accurately and with as much situational awareness advantage as possible. Your passengers aren't paying for you to practice hand flying beyond what's necessary to complete the flight. Rent a 172 or book a sim slot. Wow. Has aviation come to the place that pi...
