Re: FOAG 2025

My biggest concern is someone is going to make a career decision based on the loudest voice in the room/chat/flightdeck which might not be what is best for that individual. There still seems to be some confusion floating around on the changes proposed that are muddying the waters. If someone is thi...

Welcome to the CDN CPA world where market forces are generally ignored (Jazz/PAL/Encore).

Whether that is sustainable remains to be seen.

Re: Summer Ground School

Are they actually hiring DEC with 1500hrs and a fresh ATPL? Is that even possible if a candidate has no 705 experience? They tried and failed to go the DEC route. They offered it for a short period of time. From what I heard, they stopped it due to them wasting a lot of time and resources on 172 pi...

Re: Summer Ground School

There are two things that have happened at Big Red that gives pause for thought and clues to the future. The massive number of A220’s on order. The new routes announced recently don’t need a fraction of the aircraft ordered. And the new AC pilots contract permits domestic Dash 8 and smaller Tier 3 ...

Re: Summer Ground School

Prior to the sale of RAL, that is where a significant amount of the CHR revenues and almost 50% of free cash flow were coming from. With the sale of RAL, the balance sheet has been cleaned up and the ownership picture (voting shares) more transparent. The issue now is cash flow. Less debt to be serv...

Re: Summer Ground School

I'm surprised they're even hiring FO's right now. There's 20+ reserve lines on my fleet at each base because there is no Captains to be paired with. Whenever somebody upgrades, there's retirements and movement to AC/other airlines that negates what could have been a positive effect on rosters. Some...

Re: FOAG 2025

The aggregate raise from FOAG 15 with the 1.5% CPI to FOAG 16 for the E2 FOs through 5 years is 1.1%. That is a kick in the teeth to a group of pilots who are actively considering the option to go to Air Canada. Year 2 E2 FOs in particular are taking a 50c per credit cut, where a majority of the E2...

So Bede in your opinion was the AC contract a touch down or a fumble Good question. I thought about that a lot when the TA came out. (Full disclosure: I'm not at AC and I didn't read the full TA, but read the executive summary.) Certainly the hourly rate increase and 41% contract cost was half dece...

Re: Did Air Canada pilots really take concessions in this negotiating climate?

What seems to be missing from the equation is the rate of decay on the 319/320 fleet. The investor day presentation alluded to the ability to ‘flex’ on these fleet types for capacity as many fins are owned aircraft. However, most of the slides seem to indicate that these aircraft are not part of th...

Re: Did Air Canada pilots really take concessions in this negotiating climate?

The above is true but the quick upgrades won’t last forever. Hard to keep track, but with yesterday's announcement (Dec 20) of an additional 5 x A220, the firm orders for the next 5 years are now at about 95 aircraft. 75 NB and 20 WB, and most of that is growth. That's close to 1000 pilots required...

Re: Did Air Canada pilots really take concessions in this negotiating climate?

I can say with confidence 2/3 of the pilot group is not happy with this contract, even many who voted yes. Is it possible they’re just politely agreeing with you so you shut up? No. There is a lot of truth in what he says. Most people who voted yes always say they voted yes out of fear or pressure ...

-10% today, better be ready. When you announce your 5 year strategic plan and the market dumps your stock - pause for thought. I didn't read the whole thing, but wasn't it basically a fleet reshuffle? Hardly earth shattering or any big change to business strategy. Markets are usually down on news (...

Market not too impressed with ‘Reaching New Frontiers’ plan. -8% price change this morning.

Every carrier wants capacity growth to lower unit cost and increase revenue/EBITA. But growth never happens in a competitive vacuum.

If this plan comes to fruition, AC pilots will be pleased.

Some folks are thick as a brick. Shall we revisit this for the last time? And after that, shall we debate whether or not the earth is flat? One example should suffice: YYZ-YVR is 2,085 statute miles and 1,811 nautical miles. When comparing the two, the statute mile distance, (ie the distance used i...

Your coffee doesn't come with a doughnut, but you can pay to add it if you like. This is just the typical airline bitchfest about prices, while air travel inflation is below many other sectors. Your coffee doesn't come with a doughnut but it does come with cream and sugar. This is the issue; carryo...
