Re: F/A-18E vs F-35: Why is the government still debating?

Why all the focus particularly on the Super Hornet? I realize if we got those, they would be new airframes, but isn't this model almost as old now as the Hornets were when we first started talking about replacing them?

Re: Sharing is caring - How did you %$# up?

I don't think I really scared myself too much, but I did learn a good lesson one day while starting a descent in a 172. Before you pull the throttle back for the descent, make sure your hand is actually on the throttle and not the mixture. You'll still descend, but it will be quite a bit quieter. No...

Re: Voyageur Airways Wawcon and bonds

VAL isn't for everyone but for those who want the experience and can handle/enjoy rotations, it isn't a bad gig. I understand the bond issue. FWIW the money is held in trust in a CIBC GIC (I think). Returned at end of the year with the interest. Experience levels are falling for FOs (my opinion) as...

Re: The F-35 is not dead

I suppose it would be possible to dance around the one engine two engine question forever. I count 37 pages of that. If the F-35 is included in what ever competition eventually comes, I'm sure it would be up to Lockheed to make their case. I don't doubt that there would be competent people at NDHQ t...

Re: The F-35 is not dead

Thanks for the insight Rockie. ABO: "The price we will pay to keep the jets up to date will be greater than whatever we would pay for the JSF." I suppose that will be the type of thing settled in a completion. There is that and a whole lot of other variables involved. Not the least of which will be ...

Re: The F-35 is not dead

Thanks for the Answers Rockie. I get the whole single engine multi engine issue. That argument seems to be as old as time on AvCanada. However Some of your points need examining I think. First of I do realize Aurora's are doing arctic patrols now. They are not doing enough (or were not last time I w...

Re: The F-35 is not dead

So Rockie, I have a couple questions. What do you see as a good choice to fit Canada's needs? What are the contenders? What are the pro's and cons of the choice you would make? Also, do we really expect fighters to patrol huge swaths of the arctic? Isn't that something better left to Aurora aircraft...

Are things kinda getting off topic here? The debate on the merits of this aircraft is extremely interesting, particularly given the direct experience of most of the debaters. How did it descend to mud slinging by all?

Re: The F-35 is not dead

It would be illegal, bu Canadian law, to prevent Lockheed to bid into the procurement process. So they will likely bid. I agree. I think when they say "cancel" they mean end the headlong, singleminded, tunnel vision rush to buy the Conservatives favourite toy and hold a proper competition. Or at le...

I would recommend you research schools in your area and target some most likely candidates. Then go to these schools and talk to the CFI there. Make yourself, your experience and abilities known. It seems like when a school needs someone, they typically need some one right now.

I think its process that is a big part of the problem. It seems to be designed to take so long to make an acquisition, that by the time anything comes (if it even does) it is obsolete. That has been my observation anyway.

I know I am going to get jumped all over for this, but if you could not pass the inrat maybe, just maybe, you need to get back on the books. OPSEC? No...political. If the government wanted CF-18's to operate somewhere worse than Syria but were unable due to outdated equipment that makes it hugely political and incendiary. I don't think even the Conservatives are that stupid, but then again every time I've thought that since they came to...
