Re: Layoffs

If you are looking at a layoff as a NJA captain I suspect you are execpting more than the 600 layoffs the MOA is talking about. My personal opinion is anyone at bottm half seniority at legacy airlines is at risk of at least a 6-12 month temporary layoff. AC is not immune to this. The wage subsidies...

Not for the next 12-18 months at minimum, even if there is a cure/vaccine anticipated in fall.

Re: Layoffs

While I agree it will definitely show the 900 vacancies disappearing, I’m not so sure it will show more layoffs than that. The gov assistance lasts till June. No layoffs till June as a result. The next scheduled bid is in June. They all line up nicely. Gives A/C another couple months to see how thi...

Re: Layoffs

I can guarantee it is a reduction bid as we had 900 openings prior to this gong show. Without laying anyone off those 900 positions will disappear so its officially a rediction bid. Lets also be realistic, there will also be force reductions coming.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

Great to see that business diversification in action. AC reconfigures three 777-300ERs for main deck cargo. Operating all cargo international flights London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong and more, plus ad hoc cargo charter. The reconfiguration was developed, implemented a...

Re: Layoffs

The company isn't reducing you to a lower position so they can keep paying you!!! Don't make the reduction easy wrt training... that's the best way to retain your higher rate as long as possible. Hopefully until a recovery. +1 Isnt there also reinstatement rights (RIR) if/when things do recover. (B...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

Lots of immaturity here. I work for AC, i may get my lay off notice as well in the coming months. If so, it would be my 3rd layoff in this industry, I know a few pilots at transat and they are A+. To say poor career choice is brutal on your part fl280, should retract your statement nor does it look ...

Re: Layoffs

Only those who have been with the company a long while will understand, its not only an economic decision, but one of optics as well. If one FA is put out on the street, other employee groups will follow suit. Watch. While I don’t doubt their will be layoffs in other departments including pilots. O...

This will be a devastating summer regardless of merger happening or not, not going to be our call. Travel will be slashed this summer even the the virus under control. We need to stay united as pilots, there will be demand for cost cuts and of course we will be the first to be asked as "leaders" to ...

Re: Hiring on track?

Never say never With all the widebody gonna be parked and bookings dropping like a stone it ain’t good Agree, the only thing is if this is short term (6 months), a layoff would cause lots of people moving around to other equipment (layoff by seniority). Not to mention some of the 400+ 737 pilots (s...

Things probably are going to change. We will most likely find out in the next 2-4 week regarding future hiring. Don't see layoffs but could definitely see a hiring freeze.
