Re: RCMP officer charged after aircraft accident/incident.

I don't think you guys understand the responsibility of TSB. TSB's mandate is not to investigate criminal activity! Similar to the military, if in a Flight Safety type investigation, it is suspected that the cause is due to willful illegal activity, the investigation is handed to people with the aut...

Re: Help with identifying plane and where photo was taken

I actually think it is the Mary River Iron mine. I will check some photos I have and compare.

Edited to change my mind and agree probably Arctic Bay after looking at some photos

Re: Best Bear gun?

Thisgoodone... The best bear gun is not a hunter's gun IMO. It is a purely defensive weapon meant to save your bacon in the event that if you are unlucky enough to have crashed your airplane somewhere in the bush, survived with injuries, and are about to become bear appetizer. Or, you are blindside...

Re: Pilot prangs Metro while using cel phone during taxi

Seriously Trey. There are some of us who believe multi tasking is essential. There were times single pilot had to enter ins points into the kit to make TOT cause had to go to the spare. You know how setting the parking break and holding the show up would have gone over. 28 years flying haven't hit a...

Re: The F-35 is not dead

To add a little to the discussion.... http://www.ejection-history.org.uk/Aircraft_by_Type/Canadian_CF-104.htm Count the number of bird ingestions and FOD ingestions failures only...it tells a whole story on it's own as bird ingestions and FOD ingestion have nothing to do with engine reliability or ...

Re: Pilot prangs Metro while using cel phone during taxi

Trey got to disagree with for the major part on this topic. To clarify though I don't think you should text while on the tiller. It is the rest of the stuff I don't agree with. There are times it is quite fine for the FO to have his head down while taxiing. And if I need him to look up I will say so...

Re: Pilot prangs Metro while using cel phone during taxi

You guys kill me. A complete ban on using the phone in the cockpit? I have used the sat phone to call my kid on his way to prom from the cockpit. Guess what. Wasn't hard to do while in cruise over the Arctic. I did have company permission for the long distance charge btw. I am number 5 waiting for t...

Re: New paint scheme planned for Harpers VIP ride . . .

When did blue become part of our national colour scheme? Pretty sure blue has been part of the Air Force colour scheme since the Air Force has been the Air Force, in pretty much any of its Royal, or non Royal versions. Now if they would only bring back the Flt Lt, and Sqn Ldr ranks instead of Capt ...

Re: Here's why we MUST speculate about accidents

The major reason we should not speculate, We don't have all the facts and could easily get it wrong, and by getting it wrong, give the wrong advice based on erroneous conclusions. It has happened in the past. Yes sometimes the speculation turns out to be right on, but other times what looks like an ...

Flying Leathernecks, John Wayne,

I hadn't even started school first time I say it, wanted to be a fighter pilot ever since. Worried to watch it again because might not seem as good knowing what I do now, but still think of it as my favourite, and who doesn't love John Wayne.

Re: Sunwing flight diverted due to smoking passengers

Think you guys are all missing one big point. What is sunwings policy or SOP for this. Did the crew follow it? If the did, they are right. If sunwing didn't have a policy or SOP, it is neither right nor wrong, but call that could have gone either way and the company should back what the crew did. If...

Re: "Taxi only" flight

cncpc, There still is no CAR saying there has to be an entry, period. I would log it, if I needed the time and be well within law. It was exactly the same in the military. Unlike some of the others on here, I don't think your an idiot though, still respect you, just unequivocally think you are wrong...

Re: "Taxi only" flight

cncpc, What CAR specifically says it has to be in the journey log to be in your personal log. For some reason I can't find that written anywhere! Example, you taxi out to the run up area, thinking you are going to beat an approaching rain shower, but the run up takes a bit longer, gust front comes a...

Re: "Taxi only" flight

That CAR does not say there has to be a line in the journey log for you to put it in your log book. Taxi with the intent to go flying or legit training, log it. Was the same in the military as well. We did put a line in the daily sign out sheets, with a note "aircraft taxied not flown." Would I both...

Wow just wow  They dropped all charges which means they didn't have enough evidence to go to the preliminary hearing much less convict her. So, lets describe similar circumstances as they may apply to all of you You are walking down the street with a friend you have not seen in 5 years. Unkn...

Re: Uniform Etiquette

Well, we wore epaulettes on sweaters in the Air Force, that is if I couldn't find a reason to avoid wearing the sweater at all, as I hated it. Personally, if you want to wear it, go ahead, who cares what ship Captains do or don't do.

Re: Do student pilots need to learn about AoA?

Harry, I never said pulling back makes the airplane go up, I said it increases AOA, which increases lift (assuming speed is maintained) which causes pitch up. Going up, ie sustained climb, requires excess thrust, which was not part of this discussion. My point was that all other things remaining unc...
