Re: Flight Schools.

The choice of many new students as to their flight school is misguided often as follows: 1) Shiny new airplanes = better school 2) Bigger school = better school 3) Pilots in white shirts and ties = better school 4) Closest school 5) First school in the phone book 6) Bigger airport = better flight t...

Re: Options other than instructing?

Not so in a 150/152 - there is so little excess power available at high density altitudes, that it requires a skilled pilot to get any climb performance out of it at all. Heck I have trouble getting climb performance out of my C150 at low density altitudes. But then I don't claim to be a skilled pi...

Re: CBC thrashing Air Canada

AC is unfortunate to have a small number of bitter, angry employees in the public eye, that ruin it for everyone Man you are an ignorant son of a bitch. You talk about respect and treating people right. Well if your vindictive woman hating ways are proper in your eyes you must be a real pleasure to...

From a green as (Ontario) grass pilot If you had the opportunity to take an old biplane for a ride without getting a checkout. Would you? Where do I sign up? How big should the check be? Where would you learn about its flying characteristics, in the 70 year old 12 page “Owners Manual” if not there t...

But at the same time, I'm sure Doctors don't give a discount when the patient dies, lawyers don't give discounts when they loose, why should airlines offer bereavement fares? Just shop for the cheapest price (its easy and fast) and buy the dam ticket. I would think the last thing someone would be w...

Re: PPL Training Analysis

Here's tonight's homework; Read the following book and write a commentary on it: Richard Bach's "Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah" Well, it has been a while since I read it and I wasn't impressed at the time but here goes: Reality is an illusion Illusions are a reality. Therefore, s...

Ahem...that link appears to show there are 200pages plus there.. :D  Maybe you were referring to the pages that indicate the contents to each part  Oops my bad. Even so, I noticed in my brief scan they mentioned the demonstration method of teaching. Simple, reliable and usually effecti...

Re: PPL Training Analysis

Snip.. The club has a tendancy to, perhaps, over-prepare students, making double sure they will pass their written and flight tests. So, is that wrong? Is that a bad attitude? Giving somebody more skills, 'just incase', or making sure they have their emergency procedures down before they are allowe...

Re: PPL Training Analysis

This is one of the largest schools in Calgary. The average was over 100 hours You could have a million people say that 2+2=5, but that still doesn't make it correct. Only that there is a group of people that has a serious deficiency with basic arithmetic. Similarly, there is a serious problem with ...

Re: PPL Training Analysis

IFP, I think on much of what are discussing we will just have to agree to disagree. In fact I think on maneuvering speed we agree, but think about it differently. I have no doubt that you are more accurate with regards to how it works. Regards the obscenity, the problem wasn't the use of a descripti...

Re: PPL Training Analysis

I had a blast, square, I am still having a good time. I wrote this because the question form others is why is taking people so long to get their PPL. I am not unhappy or whining. The only issue I really have is that the schools should state up front that it will take a minimum of 60-70 hours instead...

Looking For Post PPL Training Advice and Suggestions

Having recently got my PPL and bought a share in a C150 for timebuilding I am looking for advice on getting my float ticket in a way that I can rent a seaplane afterwards to build up to the fifty hours the insurance companies require to insure you in your own. I have no interest in becoming a commer...

PPL Training Analysis

I promised before that I would review my PPL training from the point of a Systems Analyst (both physical and computer). I received my license on September 1, 2008 after 4 months of flying 5 days a week, 2 hour lessons per day. Time to solo: 36.5 hours Time to license: 90 hours The biggest problem wa...

AC is unfortunate to have a small number of bitter, angry employees in the public eye, that ruin it for everyone, something I am yet to see from the teal crew. I agree with you but would add that a large number of employees are bitter, however most carry themselves differently, if not admirably, in...

Not if they say "Alpha Bravo Charlie, Springbank Ground, negative the circuit is full at this time." :? Re: how many circuits per hour?

Depends on what school you fly with. If you fly with the Calgary Flying Club, you maybe could get 2 - 3 in an hour and log some x-country time in the meantime. Huh? I'm currently doing circuits at the CFC and I get 8 an hour. A bad day is 6/hour For Strega's other question I usually end up with Hob...
