Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
Westjet chose to offer it at Sunwing hourly rates, which wasn't acceptable to Westjet pilots. So it went to the street.... Really, would a union do that? Has a pilot union ever decided to give up flying the same aircraft and routes because the rates *offered* were too low? Direct entry 737 Captain ...

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
As far as I'm aware the CIRB (or Labour Minister) didn't rule one way or another on common employer, it was Westet and ALPA under mediation that agreed to Westjet pilots flying Swoop aircraft and to go to arbitration. So nothing to disagree with the labour minister over. Not quite. When WestJet thr...

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
Who’s the bully again, your entire post including how you changed my handle, Hypocrite! Also, I’m not a WJ pilot, I’m a Jazz pilot who has been undercut by pilots that went to SR, then 10 of them figured they hadn’t screwed over enough pilots, they swooped WJ pilots too. History is just that, the W...

Re: Gloom & Doom Q2 outlook...are you kidding?
The Labour Minister intervened to cause this agreement. Sounds like force majaure. Further, WestJet never intentionally misrepresented their offer to Swoop pilots. It was WestJet's full intention to have it flown by OTS pilots in order to extract concessions from Mainline. WestJet had no idea this w...

Re: Gloom & Doom Q2 outlook...are you kidding?
I do imagine that Tbaylx and others were led to believe that ALPA had a fair opportunity to crew Swoop yet declined out of greed, not knowing the real negotiations were to begin a month after their hire. I disagree. I think you would have needed to be living under a rock to not understand that: 1) ...

Re: Gloom & Doom Q2 outlook...are you kidding?
We took jobs for a startup airline that were offered to the street. I can appreciate you had an internal fight going on, but that was your business and still is. Swoop is a startup, no took away jobs from you as they were newly created positions offered to the street for a new airline. Swoop was an...

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft
What if Swoop was only started to make you think you've won something by getting to crew it and forgetting about everything else? Everyone's patting themselves on the back for achieving the 'first thing on the list' but what have you actually gained in terms of salary or working conditions? Our pre...

I do imagine that Tbaylx and others were led to believe that ALPA had a fair opportunity to crew Swoop yet declined out of greed, not knowing the real negotiations were to begin a month after their hire. Of course once employed by Swoop, confirmation bias kicks in when reading avcanada posts or list...

Re: Vote results.
Legitimate question... Quote as posted on wjpilotfacts.com: "Over a five-year term, the increase in costs to the Company of the MEC’s current proposal represents approximately 85 per cent of WestJet’s total net earnings over the last five years. It would largely wipe all profits going forward and m...

Re: Vote results.
It's a bit sad to see the chest-thumping - no one "wins" a strike vote. just another firm step down a well-trodden road. Enjoy your picketing. I know AC will! Like Weedpro, the WestJet leadership seemed to have operated under the assumption that the pilots remained a divided group at 60/4...

Re: Gloom & Doom Q2 outlook...are you kidding?
Having listened in on the analysts call this morning, about the only strategy that would in their eyes boost the stock price at the moment is reduced capacity, reduced costs (less aircraft and workforce needed to service reduced capacity) and increased margin on a smaller market. Hey aerobod, I kno...

Re: Gloom & Doom Q2 outlook...are you kidding?
.... Unfortunately, Swoop is not just a pilot problem, not just a WestJet problem, not even just an industry problem. Swoop has huge implications for all labour in Canada. If this gets through, any company in Canada has a road map to just start New Corp. 2.0 and half the wages of the workers. Break...

Re: Gloom & Doom Q2 outlook...are you kidding?
Just to play the devil's advocate here, does having a loyal group of pilots really matter at a unionized company? There is a contract that will be negotiated that both the pilots and management must followed to the letter. A loyal employee will always strive to be the best version of themselves. Th...

Re: Strike vote
This is Canada, and Air Canada - whom we want to emulate - rarely makes money - lost 170 million last quarter. How much of a hourly raise do WJ pilots need to cover the loss of all profit share and the paying of union dues? I don't know, it's just part of the equation. No easy answers to the shit s...

Re: Time to Stand Firm
A strike vote most certainly means you had better be prepared to go on strike. Don't think because your MEC is selling it as a "tool" that there isn't any chance your going to be out of work. It's also not a get whatever you want and the board rolls over card either. It can cut both ways, if you co...

Re: Time to Stand Firm
Air Canada needed labour peace in order to secure financing for their ambitious growth plan. So they sweetened their pilot contract to buy 10 years of peace. Even now Air Canada's credit rating is less than WestJet's. To get a decent interest rate on debt, Air Canada is required to put up owned airc...

Re: Everyday at WJ : union busting
It's more than worth the risk to strong arm Swoop flying before the first Swoop pilot operates the first Swoop flight. We need to have this wrapped up before early June and will.
