Re: overnight / holding
There are always, for those in a philosophical frame of mind, books by Antoine de St. Exupery, Ernest K.Gann, or Richard Bach(his early books). All are books about aviation in earlier days.

Most anything by Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler or Stephen Coonts. The longer the layover the thicker the book you need.

Re: Prices of light aircraft in Quebec
I haven't checked PQ prices with the rest of Canada but I'm pretty sure that after you import a US aircraft to Canada, after having paid for the trip down to the States to look at it, done a prepurchase inspection to Canadian standards, flown it back to Canada, done an import inspection and paid for...

Re: Online VNCs for flight planning
Just to throw my 2 cents in, I use a Garmin 530 every day in the summer and I keep noticing missing data such as power lines (that have been there for 7 years) and misspelled names of lakes and rivers among other things. I bet the IFR info is right on but for us mostly VFR types the maps are low res...

Re: C208 Amphib Info
All of the above is great info. In addition, and I'm not sure if this is standard on the 208 now as I haven't flown one for a few years, but make sure that the "relish tray" mod has been done to the firewall. The firewall is a weak point in the 208 structure and will start to buckle under the stress...

Re: Superior Airways
I have nothing but good to say about Mike and his AME Matt. Yesterday I landed in YRL with a flat nose wheel and Mike and Matt fixed the flat quickly and properly so that I could continue my trip. I've heard about this kind of service and willingness to help a fellow pilot but had not encountered it...

Re: Single Turbo Otter Info
meatservo pretty much said it. And I agree with the comment about feathering and shutting down before you get to the dock. I used to do that with a Caravan until someone showed me the light. MUCH better to come to the dock under full control! One thing I'd like to add. If possible, have someone on t...

Re: unemployed pilot EI problems
I was in the EI office seeking help. That was 30 minutes I'll never see again. But the nice lady there did say that if I did have a problem to contact my local MP. She's not my MP but Diane Finley IS the minister responsible for EI and her deputy is Lisa Raitt. Harper is their boss. So who is respon...

Re: unemployed pilot EI problems
I was told by EI about a year ago or so that there was a lifetime limit to how much money you can access for training programs. If I remember correctly it was about $14,000 or so. They did pay for me to get my lapsed MEIFR back(twice) and a sim course (BTW if you do go to a sim course outside of Can...

The Mole:
I took full advantage of the training programs and have maxed out my lifetime limit. Still not employed in the winter much. Bummer.
I'm not keen on being on EI but it does help pay the bills...if it comes in, which it hasn't for the last nearly 3 months.

Re: unemployed pilot EI problems
Been there done that. Newspapers say system is screwed up and thousands of people are in same boat I'm in. Online is useless. Telephone is worse. Went to EI office and talked to drones there. Waste of time.

unemployed pilot EI problems
Like thousands of other pilots, I collect EI if I can't find some work in the winter. This year the EI system is totally f**ked up and I haven't seen a cheque yet. Anyone else out there have this problem? Any solutions? BTW working at a min wage job is less than benefits and Really messes things up ...

looking for block time or lease
I'm looking for either a Cherokee 6, Cessna 206 or something like a Baron 58 or newer Seneca based somewhere not too far from YWG. The problem is I don't need it all the time. Only outside the busy summer months, say October, November, December and March, April, May but there probably is some flexib...

My deepest condolences to the families, it is a tragic loss no one should have to experience. I am afraid that Cat Driver, Doc and many other old-timers who are cynical and pessimistic and pretty much bang on about the employer of choice, the regulator. A colleague, mentor and friend told me a coup...

Re: How to get Jet Fuel out of white pilot shirts
this is going to sound odd, but the best thing that works for jet fuel is pour coke on the stain and let it sit for a couple of min and put it in the wash with your detergent and drink the rest of the coke (preferably with rum in it) while the cycle runs through.... also works great with flight sui...

Thank you all for the ways that you've solved my problem.
I'm probably going to go the zennioptical route. The progressives may be good but the drawbacks that were expressed(and I've heard those elsewhere as well) nixes that idea.
The people at the Dollar store will miss me. lol

As you get older you'll find that you need "readers" to see all the itty bitty numbers on the charts and instrument panel. I'm too cheap to get prescription bifocals and wearing readers under my Ray Bans looks silly. Tried the reader stick ons for sunglasses from Lake and Air and they self destructe...

Not an instructor of mine but a real influence. The airplane is just a bunch of sticks and wires and cloth, a tool for learning about the sky and about what kind of person I am, when I fly. An airplane stands for freedom, for joy, for the power to understand, and to demonstrate that understanding. T...

I think that, unless I travel outside of N.America, that I'll remain "the pilot" and leave the captain title alone for a while.
Although it would be kind of fun to wear epaulets long enough that i couldn't fit through a door except sideways, just to impress my 7 or 8 passengers. lol
