Re: Kelowna Flightcraft DC-10

Pretty sure it’s over. I read that the last one was parked/sold. Reference to DC 10 is gone from kfaero website.

You guys gotta remember that free speech is all well and good, but whenever there is any content that someone may consider as damaging to a brand in any way, the folks that host these websites have little choice other than deep six the content, or square off with a phalanx of shark lawyers and start...

Yes there is, and its about a mile long. Design goes back to the 707 and the 727 was the same.

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

Perhaps the MAX needed either a revised/enlarged tailplane, or a longer fuselage, to counter the adverse aerodynamic effects of the engine /nacelle combination, but Boeing went for the easy option, artificial aerodynamic enhancement. Not so easy now. This whole situation is possibly resulting from t...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

http://avherald.com/h?article=4c534c4a Very detailed report on the incident, please read. Wow. 500 knots IAS, that must be nearly supersonic, speed would have been quickly beyond flap extend speed.Air loads on the stab would have been massive, and they didn't reduce the power from 94%N1 .. but I su...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

MCAS does not override crew electric trim inputs. You can trim the aircraft nose up, but then when you release the trim MCAS activates nose down again and continues to do so until the crew either trims nose up again or disables the trim system. So if for some reason they were unable to manually trim...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

Its being reported that MCAS trims at a faster rate than normal trim, so a one step forward, two steps back scenario. I have also read multiple reports that if the stab is in a severe out of trim condition, manual trim forces become excessive unless the aerodynamic load is relieved by relaxing the e...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

It is very much looking like the ethiopian crew was not able to manually trim the stab nose up due to out of trim aerodynamic forces, which explains why they would have selected the stab trim cut out back to on to attempt to electrically trim up...but MCAS trims down at a faster rate than normal up ...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

It sounds like they are reporting that for whatever reason, they experienced uncommanded nose down trim. Preliminary report should be out any day.

Re: 737 max

Good interview but missed one important detail of MCAS. Control wheel stab trim will override MCAS and allow you to trim the nose up. I am not sure what was said in the interview, as I haven't listened to it, but I believe what was said above is not correct either. The control column stab trim swit...

I may have a bag of tab washers around somewhere  Out of curiosity, who in the world is still doing Dart overhauls? It was getting to be an issue 25 years ago when I worked on them, they were being sent as far as New Zealand back then..

Re: 737 max

Well Ray I give you kudos for trying to explain some of these issues to the general public, a task those within the industry are reluctant to do. Just imagine if an active pilot publicly questioned the certification basis of a current aircraft. Why would that be so bad? I think every metro ...

Re: 737 max

In regard to training on the Max, I was told by someone who would know, that the AC pilots did the full type course on the MAX, that included information on the MCAS, whereas the media is reporting other NG operators pilots had a very condensed conversion course that did not include MCAS. Can anybod...

Re: 737 max

planes will be flying in a week or 2 when new software is available, patch won't lets MCAS pitch down unless both airspeed or both AOA sensors agreed.. My though anyways That's probably wishful thinking. Any major change to the MCAS logic would have to be fully validated by flight testing and then ...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

If MCAS were to be activated due to erroneous AOA data I'm curious if other false warnings would be presented that could cause confusion. Is there the possibility of a false stall warning/stick shaker at the same time?

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

Another poster mentioned that if the stab becomes excessively out of trim nose down, the force required to hold back the column can become very high, depending on the speed etc. I'm curious if in this circumstance, is it still possible or plausible for the pilots to remove one hand from the yoke in ...
