Re: EI for Airline Workers
None of us want to be on EI but few people take full advantage of the subsidies they offer for additional training. Can't recall the exact ratio but they paid 70-80% of my multi-IFR back in the day. Another friend of mine became an electrician and they funded his whole tuition. If I find myself bac...

EI for Airline Workers
With it sounding more and more like the government is getting ready to wind down the CERB and CEWS programs, I think it's safe to say a number of us are going to find ourselves on EI very soon. A lot of topics on here have been focused on those two programs, but I'm starting to look past them now an...

Re: Will Westjet survive?
Management didn't try to paint pilots as the devil, ya'll did that when you lined the road on investors day. All that press scared off would be WJ flyers to our competition. Cost the organization millions. All for what? Seriously, what did the bottom 80% get out of this? Calling me a bunch of names...

Re: Will Westjet survive?
How sad of a life a person must have to not be a pilot yet spend his free time trolling pilots anonymously on a pilot centred online forum. https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/southpark/images/3/3d/PurpleHeaderQueefLicker.png/revision/latest?cb=20161116045214  CB has let himself go!

Re: Will Westjet survive?
Let's continue this conversation when you get your facts right. The union drive did not result in a 30 million loss of revenue, that occurred at the end of the cool off period a year later. Remember, there are two groups at the negotiation table and the other side threatened to shut the airline down...

However, my skills are transferable. Yours aren't. In fact, I'm already working... I bet you're not ...but at least you have the union. NoSocks, I am glad to hear that you are working. I wish you the best. In your juvenile, petulant and quite frankly not helpful inflammatory posts, you unintentiona...

Re: Will Westjet survive?
Sure, whatever. I have 10 years to think about coming back to wj (if it lasts), retain my seniority, and not worry about my job being contracted out to Swissport. You are subject to the CLC and will probably never work for wj again. But hey, the union is horrible. Remember when you guys almost bank...

Re: Will Westjet survive?
We only pretend to care. People can get on social media and declare they are never flying (insert airline name here) again, but we know that most of them will.... They have limited options. Someone has figured out that the money saved with this move exceeds the money lost as a result of out sourcing...

Re: WS/WO Layoff Mitigation Agreement
The senior guys will be fine. We are the only “international” airline that lets you keep flying (in your left seat) past 65. Their lost wages over the period of the moa can be recouped in a few months. I’ll support last pay to the last day in exchange for 65 retirement age. Deal? This statement isn...

Re: WS/WO Layoff Mitigation Agreement
All these “sit at home and get paid more” comments have not been thought out properly. Lay-off pay is a one time thing. CEWS ends June 6. CERB will end at some point too. EI is only 500 or so a week and expires, and there’s no flying jobs out there. Kids need dental work after benefits expire in 90 ...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
By my understanding, recall will be based on seniority, but it will be a recall to your respective bargaining group. So if you were laid off from WJ, you will be recalled to WJ. If you were laid off from Encore, you will be recalled to Encore. In other words, no, a more senior Encore pilot could no...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
Curious question as I have not read the PTA. Is there language during recall that prevents an Encore pilot from being called to go to the 37? and holding a 37 driver on the Q. (i.e, The called back individual does not have the experience to be a Q captain yet. Can they hold the 37 driver on the Q i...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
if its a lot longer....in that case, concessions would be even more desireable n'est-ce pas ? Well, as long as the most senior people, (who one would reasonably expect or hope are in the best financial position) are ok and employed at 100% salary ! The rest of us should be good on $573/week. That's...

Re: #Swoopprez Out!
Greaseway is out, first bit of positive news of late. As an outsider I am curious why it is positive news? Because of him or because it is Swoop? When he arrived here he (apparently) thought pilots could share hotel rooms on overnights to save cost. That's the type of mentality he brought, and the ...

Re: Are recently laid off pilots hireable
I guess if the company hiring requires a training bond that might mitigate some of the departures... True. But if the goal is to make money by bonds...that could be useful. If the goal is that you need pilots soon or flights could be grounded, it might be a different case. I can only speak of Westj...

Re: Encore wrinkles a Dash-8
The 20 knots had nothing to do with this (though, I don't agree with it being added in the first place). That type of speed is added on a regular basis in the winter (icing conditions). It is probably more connected to the fact that they spend all of initial ground school terrifying pilots over the ...

Re: Westjet CYHZ
10 knots is our max, however that is steady state wind, the gust is not factored in. Interesting that they don't factor in the gust factor... A good gust can be pretty significant Yes, problem is, often the gust could preclude an attempt at landing. You may or may not encounter the gust, so we use ...
