Airfares will be slashed in half: WestJet CEO
Expect short-haul airfares to drop a startling 50 per cent after WestJet Airlines Ltd. launches its Encore regional carrier next year, Gregg Saretsky said Monday. In a luncheon speech before the Canadian Club of Montreal, the president and CEO of the Calgary-based low-cost airline asked: "How does ...

Re: The Pilot Shortage
I agree with .. If one is interested in a career in aviation all they usually do is google "aviation in canada" or something similar and you end up with Avcanada. From there it isn't hard to see that the career path in aviation isn't what one would think. $$$K for very little reward. Passion is the ...

Re: Sunwest Aviation
razorblade wrote. I recently applied to Sunwest (YYC) for their Lear 55 FO position. They do a really good job of mentioning the benefits and perks, but does anyone have an idea of the pay structure for that position? I'm very close to getting an upgrade to the left seat at my current company and w...

Re: NTA accident at CYCP
Good to know that windrows might be a bit too high this time of year for a Beech. Glad no one was hurt. UPDATE from TSB: A12P0034: The Northern Thunderbird Air B1900C, C-GCMZ (ser# UC-61), landed on the snow covered airstrip at CYCP Blue River,BC, which had plowed furrows along both sides of the run...

Re: NTA accident at CYCP
Some more information would be helpful. We typically fly into Valemount just north of Blue River and this airport is sometimes the alternate if we can't avoid it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Sunwest Aviation
It sounds like you have your buttons covered for Contrail. I don't see the difference in applying now versus later if all you need is total time.
Not too discourage some pilots from applying but having an internal reference seems to be the norm for new hires.

Re: Sunwest Aviation
Turboprop F/O experience varies depending if they are needed in cargo or pax aircraft. Mr. Contrail requires that turboprop F/O's have a minimum of 200 hours PIC. So if you are coming from a CMA or something that didn't get you additional PIC beyond your typical commercial it can be a problem. All t...

Re: NOT SUITABLE FOR NAVIGATION
Haha, I don't think there is any secret plot I was just really curious because it seems to be the norm now. I have never seen this many before, lately they have been piling up in the system. Given the randomness of the Notams my bet is they need to be flight checked and they haven't been so they are...

Re: NOT SUITABLE FOR NAVIGATION
So if the VOR is unreliable for whatever reason, why aren't all the airways from that VOR NOTAM'd?

Re: NOT SUITABLE FOR NAVIGATION
Ok, I am not trying to start any pissing contest with NavCanada, but if what you are trying to tell me is true then why hasn't the signal strength been improved? It seems like a lot of VOR's. It looks more like they haven't been able to do the regulatory review in time so they issue a NOTAM and it's...

NOT SUITABLE FOR NAVIGATION
Why are there so many NOTAMS in the CZVR and CZEG FIR for unsuitable airways? Some sort of lack of responsibility going on at NavCanada? I am baffled. 110933 CZVR VANCOUVER FIR CZVR V301 NOT AUTH FOR VOR NAV BTN YYD AND XT 1109271427 TIL APRX 1112281800 110935 CZVR VANCOUVER FIR CZVR J591 BTN HUH AN...

Re: NT Air King Air Accident - Pilot Discussion Thread
A big +1
Four blades is great for performance as long as the engine is operating, and the worse thing ever when you no longer have an engine. I've flown 3 blade B200's and four blade B200's. They have a lot of bite!

I hear they are doing charters already in Alberta? How is this possible with planes painted up in A/C colours? I also heard they don't like going to places that don't have ground power.
