Re: Confederation College accident this morning

It's ppl training. Although unfortunate, this kind of thing does seem to happen from time to time. Obviously everyone likes to make a big deal about it happening at any of the colleges. Seems like double points if it's seneca.

Re: Training Bonds Tax Deductible?

3 guys from work got audited and had to repay the bond deductions, with interest. I'd be very careful. You may slip it past the goalie on the first try, this goalie can audit you and then add interest whenever they like though.

Re: LED MagLite - Anybody Have One?

I've had a couple of maglites over the years and I believe they are the best out there. However, I purchased an LED one a few months ago and, I don't know if it is just a fluke, but; it has turned out to be a lemon. At cold temperatures (-30 and below) the switch sticks. I can turn the head to turn...

Re: LED MagLite - Anybody Have One?

I just got one of the LED refits for my old maglite. The bulb burnt out, and I figured rather than paying $5 for a regular blub I'd try $20 for the best LED you can buy. Stimulate the economy a bit right? Most LED's you get fit within the normal maglite reflective lens. The lens is designed for the ...

Re: Interesting quotes from "Sully"

Just watched The National and saw this story being reported on. Pretty much the same thing as you read in the first few posts then they ended it by showing the starting wage at US airways $26,000 and Air Canada $37,000. They basically were saying that without decent pay, they are attracting 300 hou...

Never flown a 737, but can't you start with the packs off, get turned around and then turn them back on?

Re: If this doesn't spin your crank, you're dead inside

First time I flew a little (tactical) jet, I was amazed at how twitchy it was, to precisely hold altitude at cruising speed. But after all, lift is proportional to velocity SQUARED. Anyways, the ancient scooter/skyhawk/A-4 had a roll rate of 720 degrees per second. Now, it being an "old airplane", ...

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!

The ratio of guys hired off the street vs, from Jazz was within 2%. That came from the VP of flight ops at AC. It's a massively incorrect rumour that being from Jazz somehow destroyed your chances of getting on. It wasn't easy for anyone to get on. Lots of great people from every company got turned ...

Excellent link. Thank you.

I guess the discussion should turn to national carrier as AC is not a designated flag carrier.

Thanks picwally

the list of countries at the bottom has Air Canada listed as the flag carrier for Canada.

Re: Pilots position bid

If I were to own a company with 3000+ pilots. Just before we started negotiations, I'd tell them that I'd no longer require the services of 500 of them. With the terror of massive job losses, I'd hope to refocus their negotiations away from raises, or quality of life gains, to keeping pilots off the...

Re: Ornge " Second Interview"

I didn't realize that Timmins was what they were considering to be Southern Ontario. I had figured they had a base in Toronto, London, or Kitchener. I guess for some Timmins will be a lot nicer than Sioux Lookout, but for a lot of Southern Ontario guys who spent the last 5-10 years trying to get dow...

But a lot harder in Toronto. I think AC might do a bit more back and forth across the Atlantic than Thomas Cook, which the post wast trying to get it.

Re: Colleges In Ontario

Dakota: If you compare the facilities, planes, classrooms, lessons, of the colleges versus the private FTU's there's absolutely no comparison. The colleges simply have the money to spend that the FTU's won't ever have. How many FTU's have literally millions of dollars of sims on site that you can us...

Re: Colleges In Ontario

If you were to look at the average experience of an instructor at the college level, vs the average instructor at a private flight school, I think you would be horrified to see the spread. The colleges pay much better, and therefore can attract far more quailifed candidates. This translates very dir...

Re: Navajo De-Ice Boots

This is 100% second hand talk. I had heard that only PA-31-350s with the full wing boot were certified into known icing. I can't speak for the smaller Navajo's in the family. I'm certainly someone will have a link, or more definite answers for you. It would seem mighty strange for so many Navajo's t...
