Re: The divorce thread

Well, I have been a full time working pilot for 45 years. I have been married to the same understanding and loyal wife for nearly 44 of them. However, I passed up any flying that would take me away from home for longer terms and some years in the 70's and 80's I was away for a maximum of two or thre...

Re: New Flight Duty Time Regs are going to happen?

Is every take-off considered a segment? If so, how many segments are allowed in one day? In our work on seaplanes on the west coast it is quite possible do complete 10 take offs in the first 6 to 8 hours of the day. If this is enforced the wrong way we could end up with short enough days to end up w...

Re: Is it rare for a ppl student to solo with ten hours or l

It was 1969 when I learned to fly on the RCAC scholarship at the Victoria Flying Club and according to the scholarship rules you washed out if not soloed by 12 hours. We did leave the circuit during the pre first solo hours, but not nearly as much as now.

Strangely, the first thing I thought about it being digital was how it would be great for 4, and 8 point rolls.

Re: Bose a20 and sunglasses

Another thing worth noting. When I got my first medical the Dr. held a tuning fork against my forehead and determined that I have sound conductivity from my forehead through the bone to my ears. Especially the left ear, which is about 50 Db worse than my right ear in the human voice average range no...

Re: 1000 hours! Where were you or where would you like to be

Lets up the game here and add a zero:

10,000 hrs. Flying a C-206 from CYXS Dec 87.
20,000 hrs. Flying Beaver out of YPW for PCA 1997.
30,000 hrs. Flying GOBC from AC8 to AM9 Feb 12, 2014.
total of 20,000 on floats, mostly Beaver.

Whaaat's that you say?

Re: 1000 hours! Where were you or where would you like to be

Going into Ft St John in my PA-20 in Jan 1973. That was four and one half years after learning to fly and 1 week after starting my first "bush" job. After that I flew over 1000 hours per year for quite awhile. Where do I want to be? Alive after retirement.

I do not use Bose, but I wear a hat with my headset and tuck my glasses up under my hat and resting on the outside of the headset cushion. Works well in a Beaver.

Re: External loads...canoes...any photos?

Hey BBob -- How did it fly -- flew 2 14 ft boats on a bvr and needed flap to stay in the air -- That flew quite well. I think I has about 80 mph with the four passengers in the plane as well. I did keep slight flap for attitude reasons. Some where I have a picture of flying a Seadoo on th...

Re: unplanned road trip

Hi Liquid Charlie. Take the Coquihalla to Merritt, then Logan Lake highway to Cache Creek. You avoid the twisty two lanes of the Fraser Canyon in favour of a divided highway at 110K all the way to Merritt. At Merritt junction you can go the Kamloops highway to Cache Creek, but the Logan Lake highway...

Re: Ottawa RIver Departure under the Bridge

I don't see any danger to anyone. But: to bad in was just a supercub; and not a 185, a Beaver or a mighty Norseman. That would have gotten everyone's attention cause of the noise, but still no danger. [maybe a local noise ordinance] he he! BH It would have been better in a loaded Beaver with a two ...

Re: Ottawa RIver Departure under the Bridge

Rigpiggy I have sufficient float time to know better than to take off with a concrete bridge standing in the way of my takeoff path. I have sufficient overall flying time to respect, and be wary of obstacles in my takeoff path, and I have sufficient spare brain cells in my head to usually avoid doi...
