Re: Legal Marijuana
The airlines and charter companies encourage you to use Marijuana before flying as it calms any anxiety you may have about the flight you are about to start and it really slows down your chances of rushing into a dumb decision. Caution, make sure you eat it rather than smoke it so you don't smell of...

Re: "Gear up" - "Positive rate"
Good to see goingnowherefast’s remarks biting him in the butt. Perhaps now he’ll stop dishing it out. Spends much of his posts dumping on Cat Driver, who BTW would treat an aircraft’s limitations with respect. Yes. he does seem to have a tendency to knee jerk jump on me to try and make me look unpr...

Re: Whether to instruct or not?
It's the end results of the welfare mentality that has given this generation the mistaken idea that society owes them what ever they want.

What is wrong with signing a bond to get a command position?I don't want to get stuck on the ramp for a year or two and then sign a large bond to go command.

Re: 200 Hrs CPL getting hired at 703
Flying an airplane is not all that difficult. Flying single pilot IFR small twins in the north does take a lot more skill and decision making abilities than flying a two crew modern turbine/ jet in the scheduled airline business, that is basically a paint by numbers kind of flying. And some of us fo...

Re: "Gear up" - "Positive rate"
If you accept 2-3 kts above, are you going to accept 5 kts? 10 kts? 20 kts? Where is your limit if it isn't the limit imposed by the manufacturer and your CoA? If it's "only" 2-3 kts, why can't you pitch up 2-3 more degrees or bring the engines back a couple of percents? Discipline is what makes a ...

What PilotDAR said is bang on.
And Jack Brown runs one of the best schools in the world.
And even more important you get to fly the best F'n little float plane in the world the J3 Cub.

Re: Float endorsement
The CDN rating requires that you have PIC time as sole occupant in a seaplane, Yes for some weird reason T.C. requires five solo take offs and landings for the sea plane rating. What I did was have them do five touch and goes in one straight line, all I had to do was make sure they had enough water...

Re: Can you wobble while landing?
Is it important? I don’t know. But it was important enough for Cat to make it a “I refuse to employ pilots who,” thing. Clearly important to him. O.K. let me be clear on what I meant. It never ceases to amaze me how many pilots use both hands on the control column to flare and land, especially in m...

Re: Didn't know Canso's have aft airstairs
Cat Driver will know more about 'em than I do. Yes I flew quite a few of them and those doors were great for entry and exit. Also it was very important to check that the airstair door was properly locked before landing in the water because if it was not it could come open during the landing and the...

You'll benefit (ie live longer) by listening to and considering what some of the wise old pelicans like Cat and others have to say rather than standing up and waving your dick at them. I really do not pay much attention to dick wavers because I am not really interested in dicks. :finga: For sure av...

Re: Can you wobble while landing?
How long do you consider the critical phases of takeoff and landing to last? Personally I consider the critical phase of a take off in a multi engine to be from when power is applied to start the take off run to when the airplane is stable in the climb and climb power is set and the airplane is tri...

Re: Can you wobble while landing?
Which supports my point. I put my hand on the throttle for periods of time and manoeuvres during which for some reason I need to make throttle adjustments. Then I take it off again. The throttle is not used as a hand rest. At least not in my airplane. I also do not use the throttle/'s as a hand res...

Re: Can you wobble while landing?
Exactly swithflicker, the subject is the take off and landing phases of flight I was trying to emphasize, and we both understand the handling of power and why it is that way. However many here do not understand it and I see nothing wrong with discussing it. I won't argue with it. Hopefully by that s...

Re: Can you wobble while landing?
Back to the original question.
When wobble pumping a 985 you can quit wobbling to attend to another problem for a short period of time because the fuel pressure does not immediately go to zero when you stop wobbling, so you can pause without the engine quitting completely.

Re: Can you wobble while landing?
For sure having the engine suddenly quit producing power in a single engine airplane is far different than having it happen in a multi engine airplane. Thus having ones hand on the power levers in a multi engine airplane during the critical phases of flight gives one better control response if an en...

Re: Can you wobble while landing?
For takeoff, one finger lightly holds the throttle forward until through circuit altitude. Again no need to hold the control, which is not a hand rest. And if there is more than one throttle do you still just lightly hold them forward with one finger during the critical take off period?? For sure t...

Re: Can you wobble while landing?
Well maybe in the PBY two hands on the wheel for landing. I can't remember. Cat??? The PBY was the heaviest on the controls of any airplane I ever flew and I never ever needed two hands on the control column in any realm of flight to fly it. One hand on power and one hand on the control column was ...

Re: Can you wobble while landing?
Why would anyone need two hands on the control column to round out?which availed both hands onto the control column to set up an optimum glide path range (and for roundout / flair) for whether it died or it didn't.
