Re: COVID MOA 2
The 10-yr deal was supposed to carry us through this. We gave up massive upside during the best years of aviation in history to secure ourselves through recession. Just because a large portion of the membership wasn’t on the property in 2014 doesn’t make it less true. We gave up the right to strike,...

Re: How to get rid of ACPA?
We made a massive miscalculation in 2014 by signing a 10-yr deal if we never intended to have the stomach to stick to it.

Re: Liberals may target the Transportation sector with very hefty Carbon taxes.
Aviation just ain't the issue. That teeny tiny sliver at the 6 o'clock position that says "1%" is the contribution of aviation to CO2 emissions within Canada. Talk about a dumb policy idea. In terms of cost/benefit, right off it seems like a tax would make little actual effect on the climate. But wo...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share
Nothing to to with politicians? I beg to differ, but in this case in addition to the usual cynical back room involvement of politicians, we have a genuine worldwide crisis unfolding where their involvement is not only required but should be welcomed. Much at stake, merger/bailout call it what you wa...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share
What’s stopping AC from going into the public market and buying shares at market price? The agreement is to buy all outstanding shares at $18. I’m not sure this is possible from a corporate governance standpoint, and an ownership stake above 10% would need to be disclosed as soon as it occurred (wou...

I would not say it is fun to work at Air Canada, as a pilot. It can be fun, at times, but for the most part it is a grind. We work very, very hard and I think this is why many focus on the money. That said, I have my life away from work and wouldn’t really want the 2,3,4-day layovers away from my fa...

There has never been a time in recent history where there are so many opportunities to enter the industry. Yeah you might work the ramp. But not for long. Save your money and do it with elbow grease instead. You will gain the respect of your peers which is important in moving up the career ladder.

Hey wanna go to the lounge I’ll buy ya lunch?
Ya that was always a hard pass for me, glad it’s over. Food sucks, and you’re a complete interloper. Awkward all around.

Re: North America 737/320 Pay Round-up
Why get torqued about FO pay when you can be a captain at AC within 3 yrs. The “eat our young” line is dead and buried. Leave that for a downturn, when people are stuck in those positions. Today, it just isn’t the case. I wouldn’t vote to put more money on new hires, who are coming in with less and ...

Re: First year U.S. regional FO makes more than fourth year Air Canada FO
No current Canadian airline pilot will go to the US, but if the option was there may future ones would. And that would open Canadian carriers to competition on labour, which would drive up wages. If you had 1500 hrs and could work at Jazz, Sky, Envoy, or Endeavor, where do you go? If your future max...

Re: Swoop Blacklist
Management will ignore the “ban”. But who would apply, knowing the potential consequences? Putting myself back in those shoes, I sure as heck wouldn’t. Easier to just avoid, and other jet jobs at reputable companies are plentiful. Could lead to a claim of no qualified applicants and a foreign pilot ...

Re: how do kids afford this racket???
That is just straight up terrible advice. Anyway here’s mine. Working for two years to save up for flight training could actually be a valid option because it implies that one would finish training without debt, or with far less debt. Entry level flying jobs won’t pay enough to begin reducing debt m...

Re: Westjet. The new PML to Air Canada!
Fact is, the problem is there. WJ can hire and train people who stay there for a couple years and be happy with that (possible), or do something about it. I wonder what year their retirements start to pick up? 10 yrs from now? 15?

Re: Westjet. The new PML to Air Canada!
This is what drives up the wages of pilots- demand! If WJ can't keep pilots, they will need to pay more. Which raises the bar for everyone, and hopefully creates a virtuous circle. Imagine, if the 2nd best employer in the country (WJ) can't keep pilots, how everyone else is faring? And by that I mea...

Cannot believe people are griping about the requirement for a university degree or college diploma. It's been like that since at least the 1970s. Not to put too fine a point on in but this career involves a fair amount of reading the requirements and expectations, and then following them exactly. I...

ME ME ME? You mean, how we just went an entire bargaining round and the main- really, only- major improvement is YOUR pension? Huh. It needed to be done, it would just be nice if people like you recognized what just happened. I know the history, so don't bother.

Re: New TA?
My bargaining position on pensions esp DB is I believe somebody- either the company or a bitter, ignorant faction of DCer's- is going to try to take it away. So I am only interested in improvements that result in money now, not later. The pensions are not equal no, but we just spent our entire wad o...

The beard thing will pass when people realize they no longer look unique. I don't think it's a safety issue, it's more of a LOOK AT ME issue. Saw one guy with a baby little Salvador Dali mustache, clearly quite pleased with himself. Uh, no bud. Skulk away in shame you look ridiculous.
