And when that happens, ducted fans will be used instead - as they probably should have been from the start.

Re: When will the movement slow down or stop?

It's a 7 year cycle. 2001, 2008, 2015... I'd say she's a bit more frequent that that, although there have been longer periods of calm in some cases. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_recessions_in_the_United_States#Great_Depression_onward https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_economic_crises#20...

Re: Radio calls

With nearly 50 years in ATC when I finally pulled the plug, I've heard it ALL..including dumb assed controllers introducing new position reporting areas that could be anywhere..like "report over the potato fields" ...and this in a very rural area. Reminds me of a time I was flying Pitt to Chilliwac...

If you have any serious concerns, make sure you smuggle in a clean sample of urine. Make sure it is from a subject of the same sex or else that could throw things off. Kidding! Make sure you lay off the poppy seed bagels, unless you don't really want to see those bushmen of the Kalahari...

Come on, they've got those lovely chain bracelets to run down the cables...

I still remember when Mary Pollack was on the news screaming that Kewitt f'd up the bridge, the first time it snowed and ice hit the bridge deck.

I'll have to try and get out, either on the 25th or 26th. It'll probably be unbelievably busy.

Sad to see an airport fixture get pushed out, but that's what you get with certain management companies...

Entertaining as always, reading about the "new" Montair.

As it turns out, this is highly accurate - and should be required reading for anyone thinking of prostrating themselves at the feet of IK, BP, and PJ, et el...

It's called outsourcing, all the good capitalist companies do it - you know, in the name of cutting costs.

Right, Rookie?

Re: Canadian Govt to bail out Bombardier.

For all it's faults, capitalism has worked fairly well considering the big picture. Damn, that's funny. Seeing as how corporate welfare is a corner stone of capitalist thinking, sure, you're going to see governments decide to let large companies falter and fail. Sort of like GM, and all of those US...

Re: PPL (on tailwheel) at Canadian Flight Centre

Did your instructors tell you to look at the far end of the runway during the latter part of the approach and during the landing? They damn well better have, seeing as it is in the Flight Instructor Guide. Ex. 18: Advice to Instructors: (6) During the landing, make sure the student looks far enough...

Re: PPL (on tailwheel) at Canadian Flight Centre

By the way, that particular flight school would not teach wheel landings because (they said) too many students were putting the prop tips into the asphalt. I had to teach myself wheel landings when I got home. What the hell? How can any school have a policy like that, and say that they have trained...

Re: Headset recommendations

I started out using the cheapest of the cheap headsets, the ASA $100 specials. They work well enough for initial training, but I found as soon as I began making longer flights or multi leg trips, the metal band would dig into the top of my head and I would end up with headaches. My exposure to highe...

Re: Demand for float drivers 2017?

Assuming the HA crowd is making approximately $96,000 - $120,000+, that would likely explain why there is little movement in the full time crowd. I'm going to call BS on that. Find a non management pilot alone T4 that would confirm that and I'll eat my hat! I'm just extrapolating, based on Cat Driv...

Re: Is Marc Garneau incompetent?

Let's see ... He allows foreign pilots to fly Canadian aircraft under an LVC cloaked in a TFW ruse while not enforcing the very regulations he's supposed to be enforcing. His solution was to rewrite the regulations to make things fit without consulting the very pilot group he chose to screw. Shirki...

Re: Is there really a shortage of Canadian pilots?

Of course not, what is more likely occurring is a shortage of pilots willing to work for peanuts - or to take significant pay cuts to "move up" in the industry. There may also be a shortage of people completing CPLs, something which we used to know as TC published the stats on a yearly basis... And ...

There is, it's called "The Big Show". Another good read about the wartime experience of a pilot.
