Re: Why would anyone want to go to Swoop?
Dont forget to deduct $100-$300 per cheque for LTD/STD for an FO, and about double for a captain. You will clear more driving a school bus than as a Swoop Captain. If you go to Swoop, what is to stop WJ starting a new airline 2 years later with even less pay and worse conditions than Swoop? I guaran...

Re: GGN CRJ Captain
After reading all this it just confirms what a sad state our industry is in. Capitalism at its finest, reducing costs and the value of people to the lowest workable minimum. Wish I hadn't asked the question.

Re: GGN CRJ Captain
To be honest, I don't know of any Dash, ATR or corporate guys that wouldn't be taking a pay cut to go left seat at GGN. Around $73k to captain a commuter jet by my reckoning. A first year WestJet/Air Canada FO will damn near make that. Think I'll pass.

Re: State of things in Alberta.
I doubt any are busy like 3 years ago, but I'm quite sure they are all struggling to find qualified pilots due to airline hiring.

Jimmy2, I applied in April 2016 when the application was open. I have received the update emails as you said.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I'm hoping to be an OTS hire and have finally received the video interview email. I recall reading something about it on Avcanada a while back, but I've spent the last hour and a half looking and found nothing. Would someone out there be able to enlighten me as to what I can expect before I dust off...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
FYI, there are still people who applied in April 2016 that have yet to be interviewed. They're application is still valid, at least that's what the last email in April 2017 said. I have no idea how many people we are talking about though! There's me.....

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
My experience is that AC is usually good at keeping people informed. So I still kind of expect to hear at least a 'please wait longer', or reapply. We shall see!

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Anyone with the 'We'll contact you within a year' email that still hasn't heard anything? Did I miss an email or are they still plowing through the list. The one year is only a couple of weeks away. Is there anyone at AC I can contact to ask where I'm at?
Thanks all
Thanks all

Re: Approach Ban
Using hard numbers gives a common standard, instead of having crews trying rummage through manuals trying to figure out which reduction applies to them. Is RVR 1800? Yes, carry on. Nice and simple. Is this in any way connected to Halifax?

Re: How often do Air Canada Mainline Pilots use Mathematics on the job?
Strong mental math abilities allow you to quickly check and analyze numbers. Whether its fuel calcs, duty days, W&B, your credit card statement, having the ability to quickly do it in your head lets you analyze and spot mistakes. If I had to pull out a calculator every time I probably wouldn't verif...
