Vacation question

I'm doing a comparison of airline vacation policy and I was hoping someone could help me with a couple questions regarding Westjet's vacation policy. What is your vacation week/years of service matrix. How much is each vacation day worth? Is it per day or per week? Does taking a vacation week pro-ra...

Re: Boeing Systemic Problems Continue

Nailed it L39guy, You’ve exposed the root problem and no amount of engineering will overcome lack of basic airmanship until pilots are removed from the equation completely. The way the profession is going I believe that day will come sooner than later. Today’s “professional” pilots are becoming more...

Re: Boeing Systemic Problems Continue

L39guy, Your summary is spot on. It scares me how many so called professional pilots don’t think that a transport category jet pilot should be expected to handle an emergency that they have not been explicitly trained for (or for which there isn’t a perfectly designed checklist). And, as you so eloq...

Re: 737 screens go blank with specific approaches

God forbid a fully qualified and experienced jet Captain would have to fly on standby instruments.

In all seriousness...losing all 6 screens would be a WTF moment but I would hope any pilot who is allowed into the flightdeck of a transport category jet could handle it.

Re: DOH merge.

AC can add pilots at will. Bottom of the barrel? Have you read recent new hire bios from flag carriers and heavy jets around the world and other Canadian 705 jet airlines? I didn't mean bottom of the barrel in a derogatory way. I know there are some high time new hires, but there are A LOT of peopl...

Re: DOH merge.

It can and will effect long term WB Captain upgrades. Yes even with 20 A330s. Crewed at conservative 15:1 is 300 CA positions. Yet they are bringing 500+ pilots. All of who will now be able to bid into and hold WB and NB CA positions before anyone below them who is already on property. It may not m...

Re: DOH merge.

I'd like to see some math to support that? TS pilots will come with airplanes and are understaffed compared to AC, can't see how this will hurt AC pilots. I strongly believe that the there will be little to no net fin increase at the new merged company. 330's replace retiring 767. Air Canada needs ...

Re: DOH merge.

I disagree. AC acquiring Transat will provide many positives that have already been beaten to death on here. Think long term. This would be good for AC. Agree to disagree? It may be a slight net positive for AC shareholders. But it will be a definite negative for AC pilots. No point in rehashing......

It's also the best option for many thousands of employees. But it's clear some of you could care less about them. AC not buying AT is the best option for many thousand AC employees...can’t blame us for cheering on Mach. (And don’t worry, I will welcome you into the AC family with open arms if that ...

Re: DOH merge.

DOH I know that AC doesn’t have a seniority based on date of hire, but maybe they could find a equivalent ( those who postponed their hiring for 1 or 2 years could get the equivalent of the earlier date and the ex Canadian could get a fictional date to match their seniority). But the merger should ...

Re: 737 max

A couple quick questions for the airline pilots out there. I’m trying to get a general feeling for the experience/airmanship level of my colleagues around the world. For any transport category jet, how many of you would: 1. Engage an autopilot with a stick shaker active or any other signs of unrelia...

Pretty sure the media have quoted a press release from Ethiopian Airlines on that. I don’t think the report has been released...do you have a source?

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday

Figure 15 on page 50 says it all. Basically the FPA mode achieves the desired descent angle in still air - works most of the time when the wind is not too strong. One would have thought that FPA would be referenced to the touchdown point with GPS or IRS providing corrections. However the aircraft w...

Superfriendlyav8er...quite the first post...brevity does not seem to be your forté ;) This fin did not have any sort of predictive wind shear protection. Also, I will delve deeper into the manuals, but as I said before, I am almost positive that an aircraft on this profile would not have produced a ...

Re: Air Canada Accident in YHZ

Also, Air Canada has numerous checks throughout the descent and approach when correct altimeter settings are confirmed. To have 29.92 is just about as unlikely as a meteor knocking them out of the sky on short final. This wasn't at Air Canada but I was sitting on the jumpseat watching as my 2 colle...
