Re: Initial Callups and Readbacks
Benwa, I like it! Good idea.. this is what this website is about.. learning!!!!! As for readbacks.. here's what I do. If I get massive long clearances I usually readback the clearance. Takeoff I usually do and well as landing. (Situational awareness) If I am getting the landing clearance a second be...

Re: Multi mistake
Hedly, Fire off that advice please.. Not ALL of us are unwilling to listen... I used to do the same thing.. speed through the drills.. I recall one instructor who actually got upset because I double confirmed the feather.. However, I think the two seconds it takes is WELL worth it.. and I've never d...

Re: PRO IFR
I see your point. I've always had the aircraft back on time for the next renter. I agree instructors should have ample notice for cancellations. I hope 8-14 hours notice is good enough. I too have had to show up to the base for flights and have had last minute charters, fire patrols, government work...

Re: PRO IFR
Can't say I was a PRO-IFR fan.. Although.. their seminars rock!!!!!!! I hated that I couldn't book an INSTRUCTOR...I had to rotate through the plethora of instructors there. Also, I was working two on-call jobs at the time to pay for the IFR. Sometimes I wouldn't be randomly called to work.. and I n...

Re: How to Build 500hrs
Herm.. When I came into the industry before the downturn.. I worked with cadets, CASARA worked in the Yukon to make some $ and on the ramp as well. I used the money to pay for training, float, CPL and degree and built up my time so when the industry started moving again i'd be off to the races. Only...

Re: GTA Area - wanna fly me to Harrisburg on Friday?
No doubt Cat. I think some rules are there for protection however.. eg. VFR mins. and not flying 300 lbs over gross.. ....and guys flying shitfaced or stoned out of their minds in clapped out barely flying equipment. But I do agree.. There is a big big difference between a chisel charter and a more ...

Re: GTA Area - wanna fly me to Harrisburg on Friday?
I find it amusing.. Young pilots can talk about drinking, smoking weed on the job.. But when a genuine opportunity manifiests itself to learn from some high time drivers with lots of experience with transborder ops and flying in general everyone has a shit fit. He clearly said he doesen't want to ope...

Re: Complacency in the cockpit
I got really excited when I read the first two posts on this thread...I thought, WOW! This could turn into a very interesting topic. Then my excitement abruptly died after I read the back and forth arguments about flirting and if the pilot and co-joe were flirting. Mods, can we maybe move the flirti...

Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
glorifiedtaxi, I see your point. However, I disagree. I wouldn't dream of getting into the left seat on anything right away. There is something to be said for learning how to do things the right way from an experienced captain while in the right seat. I fail to see how I will know the " tricks of th...

Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
Ah Doc, The voice of intellience and common sense. Assuming said company provides me with a proper working environment I'd stay for a few years while logging some MPIC or SE turbine pic then scamper off. Want to know something else? I'd be happy doing it. As I said .. assuming I'm treated like a hum...

yup, I know!
I think best thing to do is stay positive. I had a hard time in the outset of this recession... And in some ways I am still fighting to stay positive and motivated.

Re: What are the general employment trends looking like?
Its slow. I'm sure you can read the newspaper or use the search function. Things are supposed to pick up by next summer. There are 1,000 hour drivers on the ramp. Guys with 2-3,000 hours applying for 200 hour skydive jobs and people with 767PPC's applying to fly navajos. The sectors of aviation that...

Re: voyageur bond (think twice)
Aviation is just like any job. Yes, there is way way way more training money involved but aside from that its JUST A NORMAL job. If people dread going to work (been there) employees will leave. I don't care if its flipping burgers, working at a garbage dump or emptying sewers its all the same. You c...

Re: voyageur bond (think twice)
Invertago, I second that. I'd fly a DHC8 or a B1900 metro or hell even a 206 or 208 (just to name a few)for the rest of my life. I have no huge desire for the heavy iron. I'd sooner settle for a company with a good schedule, good working condtions, good people, good maint and a high level of safety ...

Re: Any baggage handling, ramp jobs at YUL?
No problem,
I'd get a ramp job / csa spot as a place with a King Air, 1900, Navajo etc.. Maybe fuelling at an FBO? Or working for a place like landmark, esso etc. Should be better people there..
I don't know YUL tho.. so ur on ur own there my friend.
