Re: Timing the cycle

I'm sure about that. Calgary or Halifax to the U.K or Iceland using a 737 Max doesn't scream Air Canada competition. That's more Air Transat competition. Increasing service out of YYZ , YVR or YUL using the 787 to destinations like Hong Kong, Delhi, Dubai, Frankfurt, Paris, or Sydney (I skipped nam...

Re: Timing the cycle

Westjet doesn't fly the same quantity or quality internationally as Air Canada in that they do not cater to business or first class passengers. Westjet also has been pulling service out of Eastern Canada, with both wide and narrowbody traffic reductions. Yes, domestic and transborder market capacit...

Re: Timing the cycle

One thing Air Canada does NOT have to deal with, and which is a disadvantage to the AC pilot group is competition within the Canadian aviaition industry, minus the minor players that don't fly in the same environment, at the same frequency or with the same revenue. Down south you have Delta, Americ...

Re: BEWARE $30,000 BOND FOR 3 YRS

I'll start by saying that I don't work for Transat, but since before I started flight training, Transat always gave me the impression they are a good company to work for, and over the years, I have yet to meet one pilot from there that has had massive complaints or has said run, go work elsewhere......

Re: Jazz vs Pal

I agree with what NovaBoy said. If you're on the east coast then I say that it's a question of do you want to commute for what is now more money at Jazz, or do you want to be Halifax (or St.John's) based, but to make a lot less.

Re: Negotiations

But that is about to change. AC’s growth plan is 6000 pilots and with about 5000 already on the property For now... who's to say things won't change in the future and the demand will once again exceed expectation? Just look at 2020, no one forecasted aviation to be back to where it is today, all th...

Re: Pros and Cons btw FO and RP?

Also, I would definitely go with FO over RP, you may have a better schedule as RP but and FO type rating is more valuable if you decide overseas or should the US open up for you. Is is actually a different type rating in your license booklet? I thought it was an identical type rating, just the RP p...

Re: Pros and Cons btw FO and RP?

I love how a thread about relief pilot or first officer positions went to who screwed up the industry more??? Jazz or Air Canada. I think we should organize a massive pilot book off day and settle this up at the wheatsheaf in Toronto over a couple adult pops. Also, I would definitely go with FO ove...

Re: Negotiations

I understand that the offer could be better for the later years, but saying no now means they could come back with an offer tomorrow, next month, next year, or never... So I really don't understand all the hard no people, as many have already said, this isn't contract negotiations, and if attrition ...

Re: Flair pilot program

Flair isn't involved in the transaction. Students pay the school directly. Flair only becomes the employer after the student graduates. So why does one have to go to Genesis flight school and pay 145k for the iatpl, instead of Waterloo flight centre, or Moncton, or any other iatpl for that matter, ...

Re: Flair pilot program

Why would an airline going out of business have any effect on your training or receiving your license? I think the point being that these cadets would pay Flair and not the flight school directly. Said cadet pays flair 145k or however much under an installment plan and then the airline goes bankrup...

Re: Refusing an ATC clearance

Thank you for the post Eric, very insightful and a good lesson. I'm still relatively fresh in the industry, but have gotten the chance to fly globally as well, and have learned that ATC is definitely not as sharp in some parts around the world; definitely no where near the level of Canada or the US.
