Re: Toronto to Niagara in 15 minutes
I've often wondered what business people do if they live in Niagara and (say) have to slip into Montreal or Ottawa for a quick business meeting. It must be brutal to get to Pearson for a 45 minute flight. Considering the population of the GTA, including Niagara, why is YYZ still the centre of the un...

Re: Type Rating and Rank
This sometimes means your first day on the job as Captain on your new aircraft, you find yourself paired with an F/O who has many many hours on type, and you have zilch.

Millardair?
CBC radio this morning in their news item regarding the closing arguments on the murder trial referred to Dellen Millard as "the heir to an aviation empire and a millionaire". I do remember their operation at the north end of YYZ many years ago (as a side note, when i was doing my CPL at Brampton, m...

Shortly after earning my PPL I transitioned to the 177RG, which was $55 per hour.

Re: What taxes are applicable if I buy a plane?
I haven't bought anything yet - just contemplating. Here is what COPA has to say: Here is a quick summary of tax issues when buying an aircraft: Buying an aircraft from: PST GST HST (NS, NL and NB only) a private individual Yes No Yes a GST registered business Yes Yes Yes a foreign country Yes Yes Yes

Re: What taxes are applicable if I buy a plane?
So today I was told that if I buy the plane from an individual (as opposed to a broker), no taxes are due. I live in Ontario.

Re: FedEx pilots ratify industry leading contract
People - look up FedEx's data...... Immensely profitable. They are a package delivery service that happens to use airplanes as a method of fulfilling their mission. I personally think the pilot's salaries are crazy, but obviously the management sees this as a significant element of the business equa...

Looked at my first plane recently - what should I be expecting to pay Her Majesty - or should that be "Majesties" if I include Ms Wynne?

Re: Can a Canadian non-instructor fly pic from the right sea
Right seat flying is a bit of a skill on its own, but worthy of learning. Don't let your mind get too fixated on which hand does what. I've only ever flown from the left seat (apart from the odd time just keeping it straight and level for a friend in the left), but when I did my Super Cub checkout ...

Re: First A/C purchase..... question about terminology
Thanks, interesting. OK let me be more specific:
A/C has 1900 hrs on the O-320. It gets overhauled by the book. Time now 0h SMOH.
What exactly got done to the engine? I'm the AME doing the work. What procedures have I done.

What exactly "zero times" and engine, then?

Re: First A/C purchase..... question about terminology
Thanks everyone for the replies and comments - much appreciated. As you can tell, I am struggling a little in trying to independently understand what I'm potentially getting myself into with this aircraft purchase. The TTE is around 1900 hrs (O-320) but was "overhauled" 12 years ago and since has av...

First A/C purchase..... question about terminology
I found a US link that talks about the difference between SMOH (main) and SFOH (factory). In Canada, when an engine is "zero timed", does this mean it was sent back to the actual, manufacturer? The article I refer to says SMOH can be done "by anyone" - obviously an AME, but what's the difference betw...
