Re: Here's an interesting method of building hours.
I like it :) It's like the disclaimer forms you have to sign before jumping with a parachute... those pilots mostly make hours on someone else's money... scum-backs! "those" pilots have a commercial rating and are working for a company, not a low time PPL sneaking around the rules. My position is, ...

Re: Here's an interesting method of building hours.
I tend to agree, this could be handled like owner maintenance aircraft where you have to post a notice in a conspicuous place that states WARNING SPECIAL CERTIFICATE OF AIRWORTHINESS - OWNER-MAINTENANCE THIS AIRCRAFT DOES NOT COMPLY WITH INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED AIRWORTHINESS STANDARDS I suggest t...

Re: Cessna 162 Skycatcher.....not a single one in Canada?
He said that the only way Cessna would start building light aircraft again is if the insurance landscape changed to better protect manufacturers. When they started producing the 172 again, I assumed that something *had* changed. There was indeed a huge change in the insurance landscape. In 1994 Con...

Re: I want to fly this Cessna 140
You didn't mention the conditions of the block rental so it is hard to provide advice. Is it 13K up front? is it a year exactly and if there are hours left, to bad so sad? Are you the only one who would have block time? Way back when, I had block time (50 hours) on a 150 but myself and the owner wer...

Re: I want to fly this Cessna 140
Scanning the logs and having them sent to you is a great idea as is using a local AME. My aircraft was maintained from purchase by a consorsium including Bombardier and Canadair in support of RCAF basic training. Consequently there was reams of paper to go through, but I was confident going in that ...

Re: I want to fly this Cessna 140
That was going to be my question with the addition that I'd be happy to deliver it for you ! :D :D ... no way! I'll get enough time in a tail wheel before it happens just so I can make this flight (or half of it :)) Rats! Ah well it was worth a shot! One of our gliding club members is an AME and ow...

Dogs are more loyal and forgiving than GF or wife! Want proof? Lock both in the truck of your car for an hour and see who's still happy to see you.

Only 40 % of 406 ELT's provide a usable signal after the crash. They are 25 year old technology, the future is GPS tracking. You want to be found ? Carry a SPOT on your person. Good advice. Most of the guys I ride with carry them. They're ligh....and cheap. Illya I carry a SPOT and it gives a certa...

Re: Mounties Air Service fudging the numbers
Never happened ... Part of the RCMP response. ... Moreover, the RCMP would like to emphasize that it is concerned with language of ‘making false entries” in the OPSIC finding of wrongdoing, as this suggest a deliberate deception or malfeasance on the part of the RCMP personnel. The OPSIC has not con...

Re: Mounties Air Service fudging the numbers
It's bad enough they fudged the numbers. The frenzy should be about trying to get an injunction to stop the investigation. No wonder the general public have such little faith in the leadership of our public institutions.

Here is what I put together from Cabela's and around the house. It weights just shy of 10 lbs. In the plane there is also a handheld transceiver and a first aid kit. Re: Missing north of Peterborough
Bite the bullet. Turn in a direction you know will cross a highway. (180 would work here). Find tail lights and follow them in for a landing. I don't disagree, but that's going to be one phenomenally difficult decision for a low time pilot to make. One most enormous bullet to bite, so to speak. Tot...

0.5 overall but I didn't log it (and the school didn't charge me) as It didn't seem like PIC work to me. I just assume that to log any "flight" that you have to actually "fly". :) Agreed but there seems to still be some debate. CAR 101.01 “flight time” means the time from the moment an aircraft fir...

Re: Log Book
Interesting how everyone kind of has a different outlook on it. There must be a set guideline on how it's supposed to be logged correctly. There is. When you start taxiing to when you stop taxiing is Flight Time. When your wheels leave the ground to when they arrive back on the ground is Air Time. ...

Re: Log Book
My aircraft has a Tach meter, not a Hobbs. It only records time when the engine is above a certain RPM, the idea being to record just the air time, not total flight time including ground handling. I have to add my own ground handling allowance (0.1-0.3 per flight, typically) to get the total flight...
