Re: Plane crash at Sechelt airport

Forced all the pax to take a taxi to another airport 40 minutes away. It is a good thing to exercise that authority and decision making early in ones career, either commercially or privately. On occasion, it is even a good thing to make that decision when the condition is marginal - to exercise you...

Re: Plane crash at Sechelt airport

Does anyone see the possible elephant in the room ?( TSB report ) Best angle being 73 mph and the A/C descended for 15 seconds!! while decreasing airspeed after liftoff to 59 mph ? Can you say " Back side of the power curve" ? Why didn't TSB provide this opportunity to educate? When climbing away fr...

Re: Aircraft tie down

PS: Smaller airport service in Canada is like comparing a drunken beggar to a millionaire FBO ( sorry , the beggar is not normally paid to provide good service, it is usually a 1 way street )

Re: Aircraft tie down

The running cable is a good idea. At my airport the anchors are too far apart to have the needed stiffness ( Aircraft will fly 5-10 feet in the air because of the loose cable ) I do like the imbedded hook/ snap lock idea,,,,, There MUST be forward thinking airports in the world that have come up wit...

Re: Aircraft tie down

Ok, this is my beef ! WHY for the love of bent metal are airports all around this so-called advanced country failing to provide Proper tie-downs for both long term and itinerant aircraft? I consider this negligence and POOR customer service far from welcoming anyone to their airport/ town etc. There...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

So I'll be damned if I will submit to proving to anyone I am not a child molester for the privilege of giving freely of my time and money to an organisation that demands I submit to further checks and that includes COPA. So assuming someone goes through a check to see if they have a record of child...

Re: Aircraft tie down

I have heard of old wives tales about tying down, one is leave a little slack so that the taughtening of the drying wet rope doesn't break your wing! I tie mine down with about 100 pounds force each side, if a wind lifts a wing(s) its positive lift not negative lift and no worries about wing d...

Re: Recent prop safety minor stories

In the "good ole days" a real man would stand in front of the prop and turn it with or without a stranger at the controls regardless of the 1/2 inch of ice on the tarmac! In my earlier years, I would be "the man" and do likewise ( From J-3 to C-185 and my own non-electrics A/C ) NOW, I am a chicken ...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

so the larger planes are more efficient for running large numbers of kids through) but the pilots still want to help out. Sounds to me like an overnight CARGO operation! When I attended a CFK event, I took the time to teach the children how the plane flies and let them all fly the plane while many ...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

the police chief is saying that vehicle owners should be CHARGED if they leave their cars unlocked
My apologies, it was councillor Campbell Watt who said "I'd almost like to see us create a bylaw that tickets unlocked vehicles"

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

In Penticton BC, the police chief is saying that vehicle owners should be CHARGED if they leave their cars unlocked! Another case of the innocent being blamed for the thief's actions ! In our Liberal, lawless valley, the criminals go through the legal system like a continuous revolving door, the law...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

I support the CFK program, and I support security/safety procedures that are effective . I don't support security theatre , that satisfies someone's desire to "do something" when it doesn't address the issues. Require security checks for all CFK volunteers, or don't require security checks at all. ...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

The slower one goes on the highway, the safer it is . I suggest that ( due to liability and "safety" concerns ) that ALL motorized vehicles are to be speed limited to 20 KPH on all highways! There will be folks that say that its the way it is going, you either drive 20 kph or don't drive at all.. Ot...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

Hey, often times, when I buy a ticket, and go through security to ride in someone's big jet, I get randomly selected for a secondary inspection. It's random, no due cause (I did not trigger the walk through machine). I was sent to Las Angeles, by a friend to look at a couple of tiger moths, a coupl...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

As often is the case, a few bad people have complicated life for everyone else. The standard of behavior, and examination are ramped up, to preclude liability. We did it to ourselves, who's to blame? The liberal system of letting criminals off and revictimizing the INNOCENT is what is happening . C...
