The aircraft was well outside the final approach design trapezoid for obstacle clearance, yet continued down while there was ample indications things were not aligned to an unfortunate sad ending.

Re: N17UF Lear 35A hits crane on approach Freeport Nov 9 201
If the above narrative is correct the design 1:7 rule could have been possible to eliminate the obstacle (crane) from consideration in the final approach design trapezoid. Throwing outa notam and saying it’s there isn’t gonna do much good if there is a penetration to the final approach surface on an...

Re: Porn on a plane
You certainly have to be careful in a corporate culture (flight deck as well), I assume. Working with the service provider (NC) several of us were given access through the corporate firewall for external viewing/downloading from FAA Airspace, ICAO, and Jepp etc. One of our more adventure types being...

Re: Georgian RJ pilot punches AC rampie?
About 15 yrs back 2 DHC-6 pilots with Transport Canada Aviation in Moncton, got into a shouting/shoving match inside the hangar prior to their flight doing a CCG pollution patrol. Both ended up getting relieved of their duties doing this particular job.......I was called as a witness.

31 yrs today
For those who remember AC 797 DC-9 in-flight fire enroute to YYZ from Dallas 1983 and an emergency landing in Cincinnati under extremely difficult circumstances. Sadly 23 lost their lives including Stan Rogers(Barretts Privateers). Also an EPA B737 FO lost his wife in that tragic accident as well......

Re: Electronics allowed on entire flight
Who in their right mind would question the regulator?
The Regulator has been full of shit on this item, believe me as this stuff went back from the late 80's, early 90's

Re: Why?
You might be right in theory. The matrix does not give any credit for military time. Those guys will be waiting just as long as any 2000 hour wonder off the street. Really????!! Hate to break it to you, millitary time is worth jack shit as an aviation skill builder. The only thing military pilots g...

Re: Air Canada Career Path
I ran into a very interesting example of an Air Canada career path a few weeks ago. The chap in question spent 14 years there, the last 4 years in the left seat of an A320. He quit early this year to move to the right seat of an Emirates 777. He said that AC is doomed and that Dubai will see many m...

Re: Canadian north to buy first air
Good bye Canadian North and good riddance. Palebird why don't you go drink some Skydrol. I flew with them (CDN North) several few years back and thought that airline to be rather nice. One time,I was in YZF heading down to YEG and decided to head to the airport early for something to do and perhaps...

Re: First Air off course
Lots of the approaches up north don't work with the stabalized constant desent criteria on the new plates. I only meant to show where their position and heading was confirm as opposed to projected. If I may............ what design criteria do you base that statement on. TP 308... Just like every ap...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
Back in 1989, I had the opportunity to attend a 3day seminar/course given by Continental Airlines on Crew Resource Management in Toronto. In my time (like others), I have been on many a training courses and the like, however this seminar was probably one of the best I ever attended. I still remember...

Lots of pots of money out there There will always be people out there who think the military gets too much, no matter how old the equipment is or lack of training they get because of lack of funds. Fine and fair enough, go ahead with this purchase. I haven't the foggiest if it is indeed the ...

Re: Porter's future
10 or 2 degree glide slope, your plan is to touchdown by the 1000' mark. Anything past that is a long landing and should be a go around, no questions asked. Anything short of that and you've gone even steeper on your approach. That's how I operated the Q4 for 3+ years into this land with PD. +1 for...

Re: Porter's future
The Airbus A318 is a passenger airliner and regularly uses London City's (EGLC) 5.5 degree glideslope. Presumably with weight restrictions and other performance penalties, etc but it's doable. The CS100 will have much better performance & noise characteristics, so with airlines like Swiss and Odyss...

"It departed the runway surface and stopped in the grass and mud, approximately 90 feet from the runway edge and 6600 feet from the threshold. None of the 106 passengers, 6 crew members, or 1 off-duty crew member were injured. Evacuation was not deemed necessary; all passengers and cabin crew deplan...

Now, not saying anyone is influencing this investigation, but the Canadian system is certainly, or can be, under influence. It was a few years ago, but remember when the majority of CASB (Canadian Aviation Safety Board, the forerunner of TSB) quit when they couldn't release the true cause of the DC...
