Re: Question from a N registered pilot.
Yes. Pilots flying for the Canuck equivalent of a part 135, 121, or part 91 company generally work for companies will note in their company operations manual a specification in their Govt Authorization a deviation from the published limits. It specifies the aircraft, airport, and approach considerat...

Re: Anyone getting cold?
The expedition and Resolute parkas aren't Gortex. They are nylon, with an anti water coating. The DWRL coating can be reapplied after cleaning. 3M makes the spray. While they won't keep Jet fuel out, for the Arctic they are a pretty bullet proof parka. I got 20 years out of my last one. It took a ha...

Recently, First Air 737 Crashed and had fatalities up in Resolute Bay, Arctic Sunwest Twin Otter on final in Yellowknife water base and had fatalities, Air Tindi C208 crashed and had fatalities. Is there anyone bashing these guys for what happened in their airlines? Do you think their "corporate cu...

I would if I was a medium, or looked good in blue. Sadly. The only places I work require a zillion bucks worth of fur, fleece, and feathers most of the year.

Re: IFR Approch Question
Use of Waas enabled LPV approaches will of course increase. Sadly for us Canadians several of the satellites nearer the Poles have failed, and the super satellites meant to replace them were to have been placed using the Space Shuttle, which took early retirement. I handy source of info is this site...

Re: ATPL Sign-off
Most of our FO's had the minimum PIC when hired, and ended up with ~2800 hours for the ATPL.
I had a senior commercial for seven or eight years. I got my ATPL when I stopped by TC to get my float rating. Took about six minutes after the nice lady asked me.

Re: The Pilot Shortage
There is a shortage of 777, 380, CL415 & Global Jet training and check pilots. Probably graduate test pilots. Class one aerobatic instructors, A1 Forces instructors, Twin Otter and Beech 18 float captains. There is a shortage of TC inspectors, but the Federal Government isn't interested in adding th...

Re: Turbo-Prop PIC vs Jet FO?
Depends on variables not mentioned here. • Money Can you live on what an FO makes, pay down debt and have a life. •Flight time Are you going to fly enough to gain enough time to meet the company upgrade matrix. • The Multi Pic job How many hours annually? Lots of time and decent money can mean that ...

Re: MIFR training - sim vs actual flight time
Use the sim for procedures. Before you get all spooled up, here's a few things to do learning how to manage a twin, fly it IFR and do both while communicating are tough things to do. If you review the list of things I gave you, you may think there is about 4 hours study per hour of flying. It's clos...
