Re: Entering DME hold
What really scares me about this whole scenario is the original question. When asked to hold 10 to 15 DME from a fix, should they fly to the fix first. WTF then fly to the DME point!!!!! Please don't fly in my airspace. Simply put, there is probably traffic near the fix and they don't want you near ...

Re: Ferry pilot
I never understand the fear of a cross country flight. You are not going non stop from one province to another. In other words, a cross country flight is equivalent in distance to the cross county you had to do to get a license. Should be no more than 3 hr stops. Enjoy the scenery, get good weather ...

I also flew with a fellow, who flew for old Joe. If my memory serves me right, Dehavilland approached him about a new STOL bush plane. Joe told them he had to be able to roll fuel drums inside it. They came back with the beaver. Joe was a stickler, better have a sea anchor on board before taking off!!

New Twin Otter 400 Debacle
Anyone else out there have the miss fortune to fly the new 400 with the Apex non Avionics Package. We have a near new airplane that flies in a hot environment. The avionics breaks down approx. every two days. Lots of electrical shorts, ESIS failure, radar breaking, etc. While it is great when it wor...

Re: Amphibs are a nice safety feature
The pilot obviously made a bad decision by flying that day. Landing an amphib aircraft on tiny wheels on less than a paved runway, or landing a float plane on water...hm, sounds like a no brainer to me, unless it's a waterfall downstream.

Re: Aviation Medical Costs
I recently did my CAT 1. Doc told me I would cost me $100 cash to do it at his house. Younger foreign pilot. We talked
flying stuff, I told him I had to go to the car for the money. He said forget it. I left him what cash I had in my pocket , enough to buy a case a beer. I'll be back!!!

Re: Process to become chief pilot
TC wants to know that you know your shit. You have to prove you meet the hourly requirements if asked. After that, they want to know if you KNOW what a chief pilot is supposed to know to be a chief pilot for that operation. I am guessing you have been asked to be the pilot and chief pilot for a smal...

Re: 2014 Float Season
Ya, same old problem with operators. They want the experience, the interpersonal skills, and someone who can make smart decisions in a tough situation. Put 4 guys in a plane at $2k each, scare the shit out of them and see how much will it cost the operator over the year in lost repeat business. Have...

Seems to be a slow season. See the post about 2014 floats. Beaver jobs can pay anywhere from $3500 to $6000 a month. Accommodations and or meals may or may not be included.
Your time should be good to grab a beaver job.
Good luck!!

Re: 2014 Float Season
Certainly doesn't look like anyone is looking for high time pilots. I flogged a bunch of resumes. Arctic, mountain, ocean, turbine and multi float time. No bites. Either high timers aren't moving or the industry is slowing down. Wages don't look that great either!
