Re: Pix From a Swamper - Remembering Craig Chenell

This thread seems to have gone pretty quiet, so figured I'd try kick start some life into it with summer around the corner. I can't take credit for this shot, a buddy snapped it a while back while out jaunting around The Yukon. Keep the shots coming, there some awesome pics out there! 11102712_10153...

Re: Perimiter Ramp Wait Time

There are 50 entry level flying positions available. There are 100 entry level pilots looking. 50 get jobs, the other 50 do not. Should the 50 who do not have a job go work at mcdonalds with the hope that next year when another 50 spots open, their resume will stand out, or are they better off gett...

Re: Perimiter Ramp Wait Time

So do they operated with sops etc? You still need to fly something to get enough hours to write the IATRA because you can't get them in the Metro?! Think about it you guys, right seat of an airplane you can't log? If the operator operates the Metro (which they do) with two crew and with SOPs as app...

Download all the charts and plates on Wi-Fi, and ensure to keep updated on Wi-Fi. Pretty much no data will be used for day to day use, this applies to Forflight for those Apple things, and FltPlan Go.

Or they don't have someone ready / eligible due to contract requirements??

Wouldn't be my cup of tea, but may be someone out there who thinks this is a great opportunity.

It's all about measuring fuel burn in cubic inches of Velociraptor / hour.

But seriously, every-time I hear "conflicting please advise" I want to go missiles hot and tell them they're about to have a conflict!!!

Re: Carson C560

In particular the Kelowna King Air guys have quite the life, with day only flights and good pay. Don't they have to sit at the airport waiting for flights for 12 hours straight? Yup, not ideal. However a shift worker in a plant often sits in the same seat watching a conveyor belt for 12 hours, a lo...

Re: Carson C560

F.O Starts at $45k, Captain $70k. Jets exclusively operate out of YVR. These rates may have gone up recently as well.

The medevac gigs (Jet and King Air) for Carson are both pretty good. In particular the Kelowna King Air guys have quite the life, with day only flights and good pay.

Re: Encore - Not Worth It

So from what I can gather there will be soon only two ways into the majors. Either through the poverty feeders (AKA Encore and Jazz) or get heavy time elsewhere, then jump ship. I guess operators such as CN or Flair will be where most guys will look, if not heavy operators abroad to get the time and...

Re: External Loads on wheels

I knew an out-of-the-box pilot who flew in Guatemala. He died there.... suddenly. Haha this is true, there's always the odd occasion when it doesn't work out, then everyone sits around the camp fire and calls him an idiot. However Wilbur Wright thought outside the box, and who ever had the bizarre ...

Re: External Loads on wheels

The NZ CAA can be a bit of fun to deal with at the best of times, and they allowed it. I'm sure if you got in touch with Mit and got the tech specs of what exactly was done, and documents from the CAA, Transport Canada would allow a similar operation. It is used commercially, so I would assume there...

Re: Encore - Not Worth It

And the downward spiral continues. I wonder if experience requirements will be the next to be cut? After all... wouldn't pilots rather fly a Dash for twenty and change vs a Metro? They've already been massively reduced from what they started out as, once all the plebs are sucked up from ...

Re: Air North (Korea)?

Sorry if this question has been asked before. Wife and I just finished watching "The Interview". Besides Diana Bang (who plays Propaganda Minister Sook Yung Park), the other thing that caught my attention was a white and orange 737 with the North Korean star on the tail. Since the Pyongyang Airport...

Sounds like a great idea, and I'm sure you aware of the regs about flying into hunting areas and time limitations before you can "pop one off"? Also check to make sure you're not in an outfitters backyard, or he might just "pop you off".

Re: Carson Air (metro)

One interesting point about the metro drivers with Carson is the guys who come through the flight school. They generally move the most capable pilots from Southern Interior Flight School to the metro flight line. Obviously, they are bonded to the to the teeth for $18k (SW3/SW4). The issue is for som...

Re: Carson Air (metro)

When I go into YLW I can help but think of the eye of Mordor with the huge yellow Shell sign hanging on KC's office. EDITED: Also, as most know the metro has a few specific quirks of its own. There have been a couple incidents where they've departed runways, either of the end of "direct enter enter"...

Re: Current info on air north (ramp--> hs748)

I don't know why anyone would go north to work There's very little upside in aviation in the north Yeah, it's a real bummer making roughly 1.5 times the paycheck of a similar job down south while doing infinitely more interesting work, having the wife make about 2 times the paycheck of a similar jo...
