Canada Jetlines
Just noticed an ad on my Facebook feed. Seems Jetlines is still planning on starting up this coming summer. My first thought was that Swoop is also starting up around the same time. The difference in the two is that they can copy and paste all the documents required for an OC, FOM, etc. They have a ...

Many insurance companies have a clause excluding Alaska. Be sure to check before you leave, just in case.

Canada certainly isn't Meca either. If anyone has figured out which jurisdiction is, please feel free to post.

Re: Westwind
What's going on at Westwind? Are the pilots still sitting around collecting a cheque? I noticed they posted a job ad for a "Flight Operations SMS Investigator" today. They've got to be getting deep into the red. Loosing the mine charters would no doubt be a big blow to their bottom line. Not trying...

The PNG Fokker posting states "Primary responsibility will be operating Fokker aircraft in accordance with the PNG CASA regulations..." I believe most of these locations have their own licensing and regulator. Beautiful part of the world. I just wonder what a competitive salary is. A certain recruit...

And what's happened to all the happy Tealy-faces? The only Tealy-faces are in management these days. Oh, an Captain Wing Nut (but I think that's from hypoxia.) when people try to warn me away from a job because they feel I should do so to help protects theirs, it makes me idly consider it. Pilot 1:...

...this is about to get very messy for a very long time and there is no telling how this is going to play out after the courts/arbitrators/CIRB are done. ...WJ is not the same as it was a decade ago. 10-15 years ago WJ was the best airline job in Canada - hands down. Today, I would argue it is the ...

How many of you "not a dollar less per hour" guys have emailed ALPA to suggest Status Pay? If you're so convinced that everyone be paid equally, put your money where your mouth is. Maybe ALPA will knock it out of the park with the negotiations and you'll end up with a huge raise that can be distribu...

Re: Buffalo again
Has anyone ever worked for Buffalo that was happy they went to work there? I used to work with an ex-Buffalo employee. He was immensely happy with Buffalo and said he was considering going back. He said that Joe fired him twice but when joe was more mellow, he was a good guy. Paid well, flying was ...

Re: T.c. phone numbers
Just had to chime in on this one also. I tried reaching YWG for something a month or two ago. Spent several days trying every extension possible. Apparently no one at Transport picks up the phone. They all just let it go to voicemail. Every. Last. One. Of. Them. Apparently answering the phone isn't ...

Re: Cancellation Reasons
I don't work for big red. Weather can have an issue down the line that you might not see. If for example, YVR was fogged in first thing in the morning and the airplane was unable to leave, it would cause a ripple affect for the rest of the day. That plane might have been scheduled for 5 legs today a...

Re: CBC: Pilot shortage
I think a few dozen of us on here should email the CBC author and tell him why there is a perceived shortage of people willing to work for operators like Bearskin. I'd bet Bearskin pay is the same as it was in 1980 dollar for dollar. They've heard from the operators, it's time they heard from a bunc...

many pilots use the landing lights as an aid. It isn't an official SOP at many of the places I've worked, just a habit that some people do.

Re: Encore lands without clearance, off frequency.
Fatigue is incidious and not a joke. We lack behind almost every other country in the world. And not my a little bit either. I have no idea if fatigue was a contributing factor in this incident but saying “poor pilots” blah blah is just straight up ignorant. This is more my point. First we don't kn...

I looked at it. It's a permanent visa application independent of sponsorship from a specific company. There is a restriction on living outside of a major city though. You're prohibited from living in just about any major city. Cost of application was horrendous though. It was something like $9000 fo...

Now that 2017 is a wrap, I'd like to know an exact number of how many ATPL's we issued in Canada last year.
I'm hearing through the grapevine that there are lots of PPL medicals being done - more than ever. Makes me wonder if the word is indeed getting out.

Re: Cockroaches?
I'm not sure I see the solution. I assume most of us don't have dual citizenship and can't go to 'merica. So, what you're proposing is that people stay at their $55k 1900 jobs vs going to say WS or AC? Both airlines are a sacrifice for the first 4 years but have pay scales that eventually go higher....
