Re: Should I stay or should I go?
I know my response is a little late, but Avianca was having a labor dispute around this time so it wouldn't surprise me if they are looking for some scab pilots. Gérman Eframovich seems to have been using some Lorenzo tactics down there. I've been all over South America in the past. Loved it. Colom...

Re: 10 year take home pay
Low pilot pay is a Canadian issue not just a WS issue. WestJet is behind AC for sure but a Q400 Captain in Australia makes over $100k in year one. We haven't had very many people leave here for overseas work yet but there are quite a few looking. Obviously there, it's possible to make $25k per month...

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
One thing I like about where I'm at now is that there is no reserve system. I never have liked sitting around for the phone to ring.
30 hours a month of actual stick time isn't a lot of time.
Just curious though, how long would it take a guy to get off of reserve and hold a block?

Re: Career moves
Realistically, you're probably not far off of working at a regional these days. Encore and Jazz are taking guys with close to your experience. Still, getting out of instructing and doing some real work in the north would be a good step. Talk to any airline guy and the jobs we enjoyed the most, have ...

I was obviously only looking at the METAR. But the point that I am making is that there could be any number of causes and let's not make any assumptions about one factor or another just yet.

Re: Westwind
I don't see anything about FZRA in the CYSF METAR. As far back as 0100z, it was -9C.
Glad to hear there were no fatalities.
Let's not jump to any conclusions just yet.

Re: 10 year take home pay
The OP was asking about take home pay so that's what I focused on. I recognize that there are a million ways to manage one's money. I don't consider ESPP as part of my take home pay. It is a part of my compensation package though. You could withdraw it the following year but then you have nothing to...

90+ hours is a lot of time to be shoehorned into a 737 cockpit. How many days per month are Sunwing guys working on average?

Re: 10 year take home pay
Yes, it depends on whether you are talking in average tax rate or marginal tax rate. However, assuming you have no other deductions, there is a calculator online that you can find a pretty close estimate: https://simpletax.ca/calculator Here's what I get: 1. hourly rate x 77.5 x 12= base pay. 2. bas...

Re: 10 year take home pay
If you have the rates, you can figure it out. WS guarantees 77.5 hours a month. Getting the in your bank account number is a little trickier. If you participate in the ESPP program, reduce your monthly take home by 20% as this goes into stock and must vest for one year. Now, the in your bank number ...

Re: Should I stay or should I go?
Honestly, I'm still weighing my options. Stay or go depends on the day. The JetStar brands, all of them aren't known for their high pay. It's ok, just not out of this park. What it does is maybe give you some PIC on type which in turn opens up a lot more doors. American Airlines in general are much ...

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Something to consider as well as far as money goes is the ability to deploy. You can make an extra 25k to 40k during the Summer, all perdiem not taxable. I don't know if it is as good as WJ paycheck but it certainly helps. Seriously? That would be enough to get me to consider applying. I looked at ...

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Upgrades at WS are sitting around 7 years time on the one list. They have not budged much over the last 4-5 years since Encore started up. As per a recent communication, no upgrades are planned at the teal team until late next year. I have a buddy at Sunwing. He figures upgrades are 2-3 years tops a...

Re: 406 in conjunction with Spot
It is my personal belief that SPOT is far superior technology to that of ELT's. An ELT may only go off during an impact event over a certain threshold. SPOT devices are continuously leaving a breadcrumb trail that should in theory assist in finding someone or an aircraft should the worst happen. I w...

I ran some numbers a while back - for a friend.
A Horizon First Year FO made more than an Encore First Year Captain.
Interesting times for sure.

Re: Electronic Pilot Logbook!!! Any Suggestions?
I know your suggestion is to use the search function on here. Apps change all the time and a quick search on my phone showed a ton of new apps that didn't exist last time I looked. ZuluLog (online and been around for a long time) LogTen (gold standard that also requires a few gold bars to pay for th...

Re: First job options, outside ON or in ON
There's a whole world outside of Ontario. Maybe you'll like it. Maybe you won't. Give it a try though. The way things are moving in this industry, if you pick the wrong job or wrong location, you won't be there long. You might find another location or be pushed into another activity that you find yo...

None of the Boeing products have any systems training listed.
I just checked and the A320 does have systems so maybe Boeing didn't like their manuals being posted online.
Does anyone know if there are any other sites like this with Boeing training manuals available?
