Re: 300 nm CPL cross country
I did a 300 mile X-Country to Oshkosh after I got my PPL but before starting my CPL. 2 years later, I was able to use that X-Country to satisfy the CPL 300 NM requirement.

Re: New hire bids
Very unlikely but if that DEC gets through the all the indoc and consolidation that fast, then you definitely do not have anything to be worried about. Not as scary as you make it to be. Flying jets at high altitude comes with a lot of different risks that DEC line-indoc just can't address. After l...

Re: pros/cons of working at NavCanada?
Like the title says, looking to hear from people as to what life is like at NavCanada. I got offered a VFR course and I’m just looking for some more info. I know NavCanada has a good reputation as an employer, and that CATCA is a strong union, but just looking to hear from people on the pros and co...

Re: Best family life jobs
Instructing would give you the best quality of life, but likely less money than the other available options. https://pilotsglobal.com/job/King-Air-flight-instructor-kf_aerospace-CA-eb2d172c51 This vacancy is closed, but they come up semi-regularly. I know the job is usually Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00 ...

Re: Should Air Canada be nationalized
Let's also nationalize Nav Canada while we're at it. Nav Canada is a gong show to the point that I feel that we're going to see airplanes fall out of the sky due to an utter and complete lack of staffing within Canada's ATC system... Also, for everyone in here who will invariably come out to argue ...

Re: Sunwing hiring update
That’s fair.. hard to ultimately tell, but good to know in the short term. Where are you sent to mostly? London UK? Germany? Except for Amsterdam and Prague, you are usually sent to outlying airports. Think Cardiff (Wales), Belfast (Northern Ireland), Aberdeen or Edinburgh (Scotland), Rotterdam (Ne...

The poster Tbaylx seems to indicate that no one at flair that was qualified and wanted an upgrade has been by-passed. I'll ignore the fact that he still hasn't answered my question as to what his position at FLair is, since its not secret he toes the company line as hard as he can. Tbaylx is the Ch...

Re: Is One Hour of Fuel Remaining Over Toronto a Fuel Emergency
The only reasonable answer is that they thought they'd beat curfew, realized they would be a couple minutes late, and therefore declared the emergency to give an excuse to land after curfew. Νο, they tried to beat the curfew, and followed procedure by declaring a fuel emergency. At that point YTZ w...

Re: Is One Hour of Fuel Remaining Over Toronto a Fuel Emergency
The report says they turned around half way to Montreal. After getting a route back to YTZ, the FMC should have shown the crew exactly how much fuel they would have over the airport. The pilots would have known for a long time before ever commencing the approach to YTZ what their fuel status would b...

Re: Sunwing hiring update
I recently left Sunwing. When I got my logbook certified, there was no conversation with the Chief Pilot about why I was leaving or where I was going, no pleasant 5 minute chit chat about my time there, no asking what I’ve been up to since last being in the office over 2 years ago due to the pandemi...

Re: CFI working conditions
It should all be billable. Why would you do an hour of pre-flight briefing and not get paid for it? Because it teaches you to get accustomed to doing work for free, just like at the 705 carriers in Canada? At my last airline job, you showed up at the crew room 1:30 before scheduled departure, and y...

Re: Pilots and delays
Seems like things haven't changed since my Jazz days back in 2012-2014. It was a rare occasion to walk through T1 and not come across one if not more escalators out of service. I always assumed it was a scam the maintenance guys were running to justify their own employment.

Re: Flat pay and unions...
Take a look at gains made in bargaining over last 3 years at Morningstar, Sunwing, and Transat in terms of raw pay rates. No matter which way you sliced it, average Pilot pay was going up on each property. I don't think you should look at Sunwing as a shining example of bargaining "gains." The CBA ...

Bumpity bump bump... And...is that payscale still valid? If I'm reading it right: 900h (minimum annual) x $61.61 = $55449/yr. perdiems? base allowance? negotiable start level? Anything to make that salary higher than the Navajo pay I made back in 2002? Negotiable start rate?: No. Payscales are as p...

Well, we wore masks for 2.5 years and my family of 4 didn't get one head cold. Not even a sniffle. Since the mask mandate was lifted a short while ago in Ontario and my family stopped wearing masks, we've all had at least one head cold. My youngest is currently recovering from bronchitis and my olde...

Screen Shot 2022-04-07 at 7.44.41 PM.png Minimum annual guarantee is 900 hours (down from 1000 hours in CBA 3). You'll note there's some pay freezes from Year 1-2 on the Captain side and at the top end of the scale for both Captains and F/O's. There are some funky LOU's that deal with this issue th...
