Pilots with 20+ years are forced to commute to YUL and YYZ.
I wouldn't say they are "forced to commute". They could do what people in other industries do when their current work location closes...move.

Re: Westjet engine problem YYZ July 24,2014

Ok guys, here's my perspective and bear with me on this. Mayday or Pan-Pan is an "attention getter". By that I mean, when ATC hears those words they sit up and take notice. Also, other pilots take notice (and shut up, unless it's important). Regarding ATC, they are busy and sometimes only hear what ...

Re: encore

Not that I've heard and I seriously doubt Westjet would ever go there. Now Sky Regional has, but that was just to bring in temporary Embraer instructors from a UK operator, for Air Canada pilots would not train them...... I don't understand how Air Canada pilots could train them. The ground school ...

Re: Air Canada Career Path

I ran into a very interesting example of an Air Canada career path a few weeks ago. The chap in question spent 14 years there, the last 4 years in the left seat of an A320. He quit early this year to move to the right seat of an Emirates 777. He said that AC is doomed and that Dubai will see many m...

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect

So let's assume that the 2 pilots that resigned after a couple of months at Air Canada and the 2 pilots that got fired all went to Westjet. That's 4 pilots out of over 3000 total Air Canada pilots. Hardly a mass exodus. What did they do to get fired at AC? I don't know. Line pilots are not privy to...

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect

Why are Air Canada pilots applying at WestJet? I've heard of quite a few lately making the switch. I don't get it. I just checked the list of Air Canada pilots moving to inactive status over the past year. I can only see 2 resignations. Those 2 pilots had very junior seniority numbers, so I would h...

I really liked the 747-400, but that was in the past. I'm pretty sure the 787 is going to beat it.

Re: 787 pictures from Everett

Raven, Do you mind sharing how it compares to other type`s you`ve flown. That's a tough one. I've flown the DC-8, 727, L1011, 747 Classic, 747-400, 767, and all the Airbus products that Air Canada have. Comparing it to another type is difficult because of the advances in technology. I will tell you...

Re: 787 pictures from Everett

I have been flying the 787 simulator over the past few weeks. In one of the training sessions we pitch up 20 degrees, roll it upside down and let go. It's quite a ride, but it rights itself on it's own. Obviously Boeing had me in mind when they designed it :)

ok, Jan was an exceptional month and maybe not to be considered representative but... Rouge 319 F/O. 101.5 hours, worked 12 days, that includes one 30 hour layover and counting the day off there as one of my work days. The rest single day pairings. 29 of those hours and 3 days were O/T, again, not ...

"Good show........ now go and enjoy. You earned it - stay healthy!!" Thanks Old Fella. My financial adviser (and friend) told me a long time ago that "money always finds a home". In other words, save or invest a portion of each paycheque otherwise you will spend it. I took his advice and have set a...

Re: Air Canada Pension question

You'll probably get a lot of answers. Everyone's situation is different. In my case, I will be retiring shortly with 35 years service at Air Canada. I've been making $220,000/year for a number of years now. My dental and health benefits have been great as well. I will be retiring within a year with ...

Silly looking hats for their FAs......... what's next a comedy act like the other crowd. While I agree the hats are a bit silly looking to old farts like you and me, apparently they are trendy. More importantly is the in-flight service. I went to Edinburgh and back this summer on Rouge. I was...

To take this thread on a slightly different tangent, I was introduced to the new owner of a hair dressing salon a couple of years ago. The salon was part of a national chain that my wife had done some television modelling for about 6 months previous, yet had not been paid. When the salon owner found...
