Re: U.S. Airways Jet Down in Hudson River

Doc I couldn't agree more which is kinda the point. Why are we in this instance so quick to heap praise when it is possible that an investigation may find something we don't praise (however remote that may be - granted).

Re: U.S. Airways Jet Down in Hudson River

Ya okay the YYB example isn't all that good. But I found the reaction to be so stark that it was worth mentioning. Point still stands though that they could (cough) find a valid reason for YYB...right? No matter how unlikely in our collective educated opinions - it is a possibility. (reminds me of d...

Re: U.S. Airways Jet Down in Hudson River

Cat sorta my thought - how can one compare the YYB incident to this one? or any incident...until all the facts are actually known. FTR I won't express an opinion on either - only want to discuss the public or aviation reaction. No flaming pls - just think about this. The US airways crew may indeed b...

Re: U.S. Airways Jet Down in Hudson River

And so it begins..... A couple posts made mention of the uncanny inability to withstand a birdstrike - which is fairly common - granted geese are big and damaging - even when thawed  . A couple posts were somewhat incredulous to loose both engines at the exact same time or in close order. The ...

Re: In Defence of Transport Canada

TC's only concern, ever, is about liability. Thats it. Full stop. I think what Mark is getting at is T.C. sheds (their own) liability whenever possible.. Two examples from the last decade are: - Handing responsibility for airports, ATC and nav systems off to " Nav Canada " to audit / administer - T...

Re: U.S. Airways Jet Down in Hudson River

Maybe premature and trusting the "media" but they are reporting both engines missing although they don't know when they came off - landing or birdstrike.

Gonna pull her out of the water Saturday morning.

I heard some news team has video of the water landing? Anyone seen it?

Re: U.S. Airways Jet Down in Hudson River

That said, there is the potential for one hell of a fuel spill... wonder what they're doing about it? stl Why? If the hull is intact I think the wings likely are...although the engines may be missing. I might be more concerned about water from the Hudson getting into the airplane  Nice job in...

Re: To Doc

PFT, bonds, etc it's all the same - we've already established what your are, now we're haggling over price and everyone has a price. IF a company is well run and treats it's employees like a valued asset, then said employee really shouldn't be using it as a quick stepping stone. Granted they likely ...

Re: ".......annnnd...."

.......annnnd.... I just pushed the PTT and totally forgot what I was gunna say... Is usually why I do it. Same. What annoys me more than anything is when "currently" and "at this time" are used in the same sentence. I don't think either is even necessary... if you make a position report, I'm going...

Re: ".......annnnd...."

I use "currently" to meet that part of the guideline. You don't need to say it... it's completely obvious you are talking about the present. Is there anyone out there that makes a position report in regards to where they were or where they're going? And if for some reason you do, then say so. Whate...

Re: Tally-ho

Funny - I've heard "tally-ho" lots and never gave it a second thought. Especially when the other airplane is a HO. I've also heard "Got the Fokker in sight" when appropriate.... I personally dislike "got em on the fish finder"....really? A fish finder? (ref to TCAS) When you hear "Radar Conta...

Re: Accidents are NOT Okay!

Rationalizing is a very slippery slope. No one got hurt....this time. Nothing got bent...this time. My 2nd instructor always told me to report anything I saw that was in violation. (non-flying instructor). His logic was you never know how many times that guy has gotten away with a close call - and y...

Re: Questions you've heard 1000 times.

Just to be devils advocate. How do you make a million dollars in aviation? Start with 20 million..... On becoming a professional pilot... a slow means of starvation. But to slip the surley bonds of Earth and touch the face of god :D ..to actually get paid to do it 8) While I personally gave up a tou...

Re: 737 off runway in Denver

Why is it okay to post a link to a video where a so-called expert "speculates" as to why this happened????

Why is it NOT okay for AVCanada members to do the same???

WTF over????

Those responsible for rogering the roger have been sacked.

Those who sacked the rogerer have also been sacked

The sackers who sacked the rogerer have been rogered and sacked

Seriously, show where there is any requirement for ATC to acknowledge any readback - except of course to correct it.....,

Re: On The Subject of Stupid Phraseology

Family guy, I'm using an example where you have someone joining a 5 mile final. At 110kts, its just over 2.5 min, at 65kts its just under 5 min's and in 2.5 min's, they're still over 2 miles final That leaves you with close to a 3 min difference to the threshold and 2 miles to play with. Again, tha...
