Re: Getting Swoop flying back to WJ pilots

Blue42 I have not seen that information anywhere in regards to vacation. I am sure I could apply to the website with anyone else off the street. There was no attempt made to forwarn they were opening up to hire for Swoop. It is apparent now in hindsight that the company never intended to use WestJet...

Re: Getting Swoop flying back to WJ pilots

Truenorth, The positions were never offered internally. The only knowledge we got internally was an email asking ALPA to remove the ban. Then the Swoop pilot job posting went up on the Swoop site the next day. Exactly the same time a Westjet quarterly bid is running (0 hires, 0 upgrades), it opened ...

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.

Hi Diadem, I feel your pain, I started flight lessons in 1993 and didn't get hired at a 'good' operator (WestJet) until 2011, now I am a 7 year FO looking at the air brakes coming on for upgrades. Why not try ANY of the other jet operators first (sunwing, cargo jet, flair, etc), then try Swoop as yo...

Re: Swoop Blacklist

Didn’t’t GGN just certify with ALPA, if you just certified to improve your working conditions why would you then leave there to go to an ALPA blacklisted airline? Swoop is supposed to start revenue flights the end of June, so whatever managements plan is they will have to act on it soon. According t...

Re: Westjet vs. AC Pilot Pay Comparison PDF

Plus AC has trip/duty rigs. You fly hard time at WestJet (no credit system) and will have a higher TAFB at WestJet. So..you are working more and away more for the pay.

Re: WJ Pilots seek ALPA unionization vote

I believe once they start the negotiations they only have one year to complete them in canada, if they fail it comes to a mediator, then arbitrator. So no dragging on for 4 years. I don't think either side wants it to go that long even.

Re: 777 captain for $175K

Most WJ skippers gross in the $250000.00 range give or take $20 or $30 depending on years of service and O/T. Plus part of the gross includes the company 20% employee share purchase plan top up. So the actually money in the bank after everything is said and done is considerably less. As for the 2 1/...

Re: Is the PC-12 a burden for our future?

They have comparable systems to large aircraft, fly high and fast, and when I flew them they had partial glass (probably all glass now). So they are a great learning aircraft (I went from a beaver to one). If you are in the lucky position to choose from job prospects between a a metro or a PC12 take...

Ground School Accommodations

Where do most guys/gals stay when they are attending G/S in YYC?,is there somewhere relatively reasonable that has a shuttle service? or are you better off renting a car?. Or,to word it differently, where have you stayed during your ground school?-what did it cost?, and how did you get to and from? ...

If you've ever seen the cockpits of our machines you'd only want to fly them in the dark too. All the uniform grey developes textures and colours after the sun rises, and it ain't paint.

I wonder how many aircraft and crews would be required to dedicate to this new service-I suppose there will be some freed up from the destination winter flying.

Re: Westjet Runway Excursion in Hamilton

I flew into YHM last night and had to land on 24 due to the 737 being disabled on runway 30. We were told it went off while trying to turn on the slippery turn around area at the end of 30. And it was like a skating rink the last few days. So nothing to sensational, I'm sure it was still a pain in t...

Re: What amount of money would bring you to a reserve to fly

The money is of some importance, but why are you really asking?. Do you have a strong desire to fly in the bush, are you looking for a first job?. If you are looking for your first job you should look into other more important info, what will you fly (condition, maintenance), where will you fly, is it...
