Re: Looking for info.
Sorry, I thought we were talking about the Metro on the west side of the airport.
The MU 2 had something to do with a power loss compounded by a wrong flap setting.

Re: Fatal helicopter crash Prince George
I read the comments in the YouTube video. Some sharp eyes have identified a tail rotor strike into the tree at 0:36. That's certainly in the mix for the causal chain.
I did most of my helicopter training in a Hughes 300 down at Carlsbad airport by Oceanside. Never a word about LTE at all.

Re: Fatal helicopter crash Prince George
I'm surprised Canfor would put their contractors into a private helicopter. I read somewhere it was the contractor that owned the helicopter. Yeah, I got that sense as well. The helicopter is registered to a company in the pilot's name. But, I think that one of the deceased was a contractor for Can...

Re: Fatal helicopter crash Prince George
The helicopter was commercially registered, but the owner name does not show on TC list of approved organizations.

Re: Fatal helicopter crash Prince George
I did hear a bit on this last night from a good source. Six people in a Long Ranger. Confined space vertical takeoff. On clearing canopy, wind change that put the wind on the tail. LTE and into the trees. Apparently not a commercial operator. I'm surprised Canfor would put their contractors into a p...

Yeah, it's definitely a term that is used to convey respect, 100% respect. The whole sentence from Shakespeare is "Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Re: Redbird Sim TC approval
I've done the Qualification Test Guides for two Redbird sims back in 2011. It was a tedious process measuring and recording various control pressures at different speeds, etc. And, I went through a recertification. Poor visual systems. It's an IFR sim, FFS. You can't see dick. That's the point. You ...

Re: Canadian Registered Ted Smith Aerostar Down in Florida
I've had a shutdown for vibration in a Seminole. Different story, but it climbed to 5500 and flew 140 miles with no problem at all. High power on the other, but still in the green. It would have been light.

Re: The Wrong Way to Teach Force Landings
How we train students for engine failures does not IMO reflect the reality of how engine failures actually occur in the real world. Specifically: 1) Looking at the accidents statistics approximately 2/3rds of all engine failures are directly caused by the actions or inactions of the pilot. The best...

Re: Canadian Registered Ted Smith Aerostar Down in Florida
Have to be very disciplined when doing this sort of practice. No need to rush. Be careful and methodical. And(assuming one has time - like this flight did) be willing to triple check before making the selection to shutdown. A lot more altitude would also have been a good idea - 3500' is far too low...

Re: piper pa32 crashed last night near kananaskis village
Do people actually fly general aviation aircraft through there intentionally at night? I expect it depends on the night. And whether its a single or twin. Sky conditions, whether you can make 10500 westbound, moonlight...lot of factors. If its a single, you are staking your life and your passengers...

You'd think it would be a near thing, but they'd have been close enough to raise questions on how wise it was to continue. Not sure what the field elevation of Springbank is.
