By saying that, you're making my point for me. When you're the only one arguing against the masses, it might be time to look in the mirror and think "Am I out of touch?"

Re: TUI style
You are 2 aircraft short for the busy times and that is the crew that should be hired and working year round, this only benefits the company by not carrying extra crew during the offseason. Every other airline except Sunwing has the burden of carrying extra crew and aircraft for the slow period and...

It didn't happen at Oshkosh. It happened at the Thunder Over Michigan Airshow in Ypsilanti, near Detroit.

Re: Too much in a hurry to wait a little bit for wake turbulence separation?
Lets say runway is 1nm long, 206 rotates 0.1nm down the runway, 737 rotates 0.5nm. Assume 737 initially climbs at 150kt at 2700fpm (1100ft/nm), 206 at 90kt 750fpm (500ft/nm). By the end of the runway, the 737 will be at 550ft and the 206 will be at 500ft if I've calculated it correctly. Neither wil...

Re: Too much in a hurry to wait a little bit for wake turbulence separation?
No, the 206 was 1000ft below the path of the 737. This diagram might explain it better: https://i.imgur.com/URPrYMo.png For some reason your image isn't appearing on any browser I'm using and I've tried two different computers. I was just confused because you said the 206 "rotated a few thousand fe...

Re: Too much in a hurry to wait a little bit for wake turbulence separation?
I just looked at their flightaware data: - They both took off from the end of the same runway. - 6kt direct right crosswind - at circuit the wind was likely 7kt from about 30 degrees left of runway heading - I'm guessing the 206 rotated a few thousand feet before the 737. - when the 206 was at circ...

Re: Too much in a hurry to wait a little bit for wake turbulence separation?
You can waive wake turbulence separation in some situations at controlled airports. I know that I have done it before but don't remember the specifics. Here are the rules at a controlled airport: Both departures from the threshold or same intersection and the second aircraft is expected to rotate b...

Re: YYZ training - is there any transportation to that part of the airport?
Hi all, I’ll be moving back to Toronto for the training without my partner for a while so it just won’t be feasible for us to have 2 cars, is there any staff bus or anything that goes to that part of the airport from the main terminal or anything..? Airports I’ve worked at in the past have provided...

Re: What is salary upon completion of training?
I am talking for IFR and the 4 major towers (YUL,YVR,YYZ,YYC) only. Not so familiar with the smaller units. A newly certified controller at a lowly ATC-1, Premium 1 tower would be $97,585 under the new contract. Add in shift, weekend and evening premiums, and that's probably closer to $105,000 per ...

Re: What is salary upon completion of training?
Its also important to note that these premiums have nothing to do with cost of living but rather how busy each unit is. Also, with the new contract just signed, the above figures are already out of date by 5%. I took the numbers I posted right from the CATCA PowerPoint presentation that shows the n...

Re: What is salary upon completion of training?
Thats incredible... I really hope that I can pass the selection and training! Is there a list of the other FIR premiums? Each unit has its own premium and I'm just familiar with YYZ as I'm in the YYZ FIR. I don't have a list of the other FIR premiums handy. I do know YYZ has the highest premium, bu...

Re: What is salary upon completion of training?
If you get through training and get licensed as an IFR controller, your initial salary will be ATC-6, Year 1 which equals $127,594. On top of that, there is the ATC premium, which you can think of as your "cost of living" stipend. In YYZ for example, it's $44,756. Therefore, upon qualification, your...

There is a reason this practice was so discussed at “SCUMWING” remember them? The issue you refer to was when Canadian pilots were laid off while at the same time bringing in TFW's to crew the aircraft. That practice ended during my time there, and once that was resolved, the deployments were one o...

Re: Refusing an ATC clearance
There was an airport in Mexico (can't remember which one) in which our Route and Aerodrome Manual specified we were only able to accept a left turn off a particular runway due to mountains to the right. Turning left was the "wrong" way initially for our direction of flight back to Canada, but it kep...

https://flightaware.com/live/cancelled/today What's the source on this number? (genuine question, not trying to be a smart@$$) Looks pretty accurate when just looking at the GTAA Departures List. Out of 9 flights, 5 were cancelled flights in just one 10-minute span: Screen Shot 2023-07-01 at 5.16.4...

Re: 312 flights cancelled in the last 4 days.
It looks like the airlines and airports are putting the blame for flight cancellations on ATC: https://www.albertaprimetimes.com/beyond-local/hundreds-of-flights-delayed-cancelled-over-air-traffic-control-staffing-shortages-7198300 Staffing shortages at Canada’s air traffic control agency caused hun...
