Re: Flat Stan

That's a good one!! We took Flat Stanley for a floatplane tour over Kokanee Glacier and then a little picnic at Evans Lake in the Valhallas- he had the best seat in the house, wedged securely between the bracing wires! The clients didn't seem to mind, and never even asked him to contribute to the co...

Re: Trades people VS Pilots

Had to dig back through my old logbooks, but when I had my first ATPL signed off, I had over 1,350 hours of PIC, day and night, single and multi-engine land. Everyone is in such a slapdash, superficial hurry. And they all want something for nothing. Gotta love that sense of entitlement. +1 Bit of t...

Re: getting a flying job these days !

Airtids, CPL + group 1 IFR is all that's required to be hired fly a Navajo or any other light twin that is registered "privately". In theory a 200hr wonder could do just that. There are at least 2 members on these boards that I know of for sure who have been hired in such a capacity. The CARS you q...

Re: getting a flying job these days !

Read up, Doc: 723.86 Minimum Crew Single Pilot IFR Requirements The standard for the operation of an aeroplane with passengers on board in IFR flight without a second-in-command is: (1) the pilot shall have a minimum of 1000 hours of flight time which shall include, if the type to be flown is multi-...

Re: Floats for CPL?

It's a great idea. We used to offer exactly that service, and were certainly one of only a few that could/would/did. What you need to be aware of is that your float instructor will need to have at least a Class 4 Instructor rating and the operator will need to hold an FTU Operator Certificate. Your ...

Re: Winter schedules

Thanks all!

Actual plan is to be down there about the 19th or so, sitting on the ruins of Tulum with the family at midnight on the 21st. Chaos for breakfast on the 22nd!

When do Westjet and AC put out their winter sun destination schedules? Looking at maxing out the visas, 2nd mortgage on the house, and heading to Mayan Riviera for the end of the world Dec 22nd, but can't believe I have to fly through London to get to Cancun from Calgary??!!

"How to fly floats" video

I used to have a copy of a video, pretty sure it was called "How to fly a floatplane". It went along with the EDO book, and followed a young guy doing his float rating in a cub at Jack Browns. Anyone know of tha video? Any idea if it's still available?

Cheers, Tids

+2 I would certainly hope that folks would give what was actually written here a real critical read before firing off a letter to somebody's employer. Bottom line is Viking is building a PHabulous machine that some lucky/talented guy gets to ferry around the world. I say get your resume in, it could...

Hard to believe, but today marks two years since Peter's flight to a far better place. As expected, he is still missed. I have decided to undertake his nomination to the Canadaian Aviation Hall of Fame. The process is quite involved, so I am soliciting the help of anyone who feels they can add to th...

Re: Happy feet?

I've seen this before, hate it, and also understand where it comes from. I was completing a client's insurance checkout requirements on his "new" C170b and on the first approach, noticed he seemed to be really overcorrecting and busy on the rudder pedals. I called it "dancing feet" and asked him wha...

So all you @ss-kissers - I'm not saying you're wrong. I just admire your ability to get used to the taste. Heck, maybe you like it! No brown tongue here, Sorry your experience was so bad. You don't have to kiss a$$ to be successful in this industry, you just have to know the rules, and play the gam...

Michael,

Your contributions were a tremendous plus for this forum. Your absence here is a loss to those who could learn from your experience(s), and a detriment to the industry in general.
