Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

Swallow, imho I'll wager (no money just bragginging rights) the swoop starting left seat and CBA will be damn near what we (wj) currently have. Rouge has set the bar, and I dont think Kaplan is going to deviate far from it. $103 / hour for 737 skipper is laughable, an unrealistically low offer that ...

Re: WestJet Delays some 737 max 8 deliveries

Or 4 aircraft could’ve returned to lessor, 2 MAXs not leased and 0 aircraft added in 2020 and only 3 in 2021. Guess it depends how you look at it. Instead we have 4 aircraft coming next year, not including the ‘87s....don’t worry ALPA will make it all better though :goodman: YOS, on an extended pay...

Re: Mid-Air Collision Near Ottawa

This scenario plays out every few years, in various ways. It's sad, I truly feel for all those effected. It's also a solid reminder to keep those procedures sharp, and your lookout sharper. Did the piper have tcas?, did the 150 have a transponder? were proper radio calls made. All these points need ...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

Continuing this thread is like poking a guy who got KOd in a fight. It's pointless and just breeds bad blood. The wrongs are being righted, our CBA is due and at the point we'll see just how bad the damage is. Time will tell how the industry feels about their (origional DEC) time at swoop. Given the...

Re: Is it a good time to change careers?

Also with aviation you can moonlight fairly easily when you get established. If flying is what you love, go do it. Just make sure you know what's required (most likely moving north) before you do this. That said there is a solid demand for pilots so getting jobs is a lot easier.

A family needs our help.

First let me say I know Joe, this isn't aviation related but I figure this community could help out. A fella I kinda know (my kids played with his kids) just had a horrific work place accident that left him crippled. 4 young kids, self employed, he was a very hard working carpenter. I thought we cou...

Re: Stalls into a headwind or Tailwind

I would think stalling into a headwind would recover cleaner then a tailwind, but all I've done over the last 15 years is avoid them (stalls) in the sim. I can honestly say from my training / instructing days this topic never came up.

Re: Reality of starting at 40?

No your not too old. Looking back at my career starting in 1995 in flight school to now (23 years), I've had many jobs and am in the left seat at westjet. That's during some really really shit times. Currently the industry is going nuts, and you have 23 years of career to 65 + 2 years of training wi...

Long time lurker and I just couldn't help myself and decided to make an account and ask a question regarding this article https://www.pilotcareercentre.com/Aviation-Pilot-Recruitment-News-Item/8299/Canada-faces-severe-shortage-of-pilots-and-aircraft-workers Where on earth is this shortage and upcom...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

:goodman: While the recent victory is small, it is one nonetheless. Yes. Small it is. Prior to ALPA's election, all Swoop flying was to be done only by pilots on the (now on life-support) WestJet Pilot Department List, composed only of WJ and Encore pilots, with terms to be negotiated. So I guess o...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

I think most of us can agree that today is a good day for Canadian Aviation and a victory for organized labour. Hopefully most of the 26 will go back to the rocks that they crawled out from under and reflect on the damage they nearly inflicted on the rest of the industry. Congrats ALPA. Keep up the...

Ah, I didnt know it was an ultralight, which I have zero experience on, and therefore cant comment on. I thought you were working on a traditional light single like a c172
Or pa28140. Good luck on your rating, fly safe.

Re: My early Flight Instructor training

As a side note, if you can't exceed the 21 kt crosswind limit of your training AC you shouldn't be thinking at all about instructing and focus on mastering the basics.

Re: My early Flight Instructor training

Well.... lots of great thoughtful responses.... I will be working my way into flight instructor slowly.... I am not going to be an instructor tomorrow. A big thing will for sure be developing weather sense and I don't have enough time in the air to be proficient yet in that either.... but it will c...

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft

YVR Lurker, I may be out of you and your ALPA fanboi’s hair. I won’t know until a few days from now if I pass the medical, but if I do, I’ll do everything I can to get hired. I don’t think what the new contract holds even matters. The take home pay here is astronomical for a 737 pilot. I met 6 expa...
