Re: Q400 Headset
We have Bose A20s in our Qs; some of my friends bring their own Clarity Aloft. I've used a Sennheiser (I think it's the HMEC 26) on occasion and the noise protection isn't really sufficient in the Q, wouldn't recommend those.

Re: University Degree Still Worth It?
My last thought would be to consider some of the aviation colleges that have agreements with Jazz, Georgian or Porter. A number of these airlines have announced partnerships with flight schools and/or colleges to hire a certain number of graduates. To be fully clear, the intent of Porter's program ...

I believe it was negotiated as such with the condition that only 1 jumpseater per flight is allowed.av8ts wrote:So how can Porter be free if on other airlines you have to pay airport improvement fees?

Re: What Company operating North of Ontario Quebec Single pi
From what you posted on another forum, Oleg, it appears you have 1500h, 1300 of which are right seat Airbus, and you're a Canadian but now overseas. The bad news is, to these companies listed above, you basically the same as 200h newbies since your Airbus experience has no relevance to single pilot ...

Re: Flow control delays.
Sometimes it's delays with enroute (airborne) ATC - Cleveland, etc. There's a free app called ATC Delays (for iPhone) that will show you current delays and (sometimes vague!) reasons for them - I can't recall if the enroute delays show up there or not, however, but definitely all airport related one...

Re: Part 135 Checkride
Systems x1000000. I did a GII ride for my conversion, and I had to know things like the temp of the air as it went from the engine as it went into the airframe... extra fun since that airplane does half the temps in celsius, half in fahrenheit. We did 2h of questions like this (and some regulatory s...

Re: how much Multi PIC for Georgian/jazz/porter?
Does porter/jazz/georgian put a value on flight instructing time? Thanks Porter certainly doesn't dis count instructing time, however the many pilots there that are former instructors also have turbine and/or bigger airplane experience in 702/3/4/5 or charter ops. 2 crew ops are good on the resume ...

Re: how much Multi PIC for Georgian/jazz/porter?
The biggest requirement for any of these companies is that you are the type of person that somebody can put up with on a 4 day pairing. At 1500 hours, you probably know how to fly a plane. With ATPL exams, you probably have the knowledge base. BUT if you are an asshole and nobody wants to fly with ...

Sander just laid off a bunch of pilots.schnitzel2k3 wrote:Sanders (I think they operate under a different name), Fugro
Fugro is now CGG, and things are fairly slow there right now as well. No layoffs but certainly no hiring, and they traditionally have not considered pilots with less than 1500-2000h.)

Not sure if Gleim has any online study guides, or if you have the study guide left over from when you did your conversion? I did mine as a digital online subscription (I think it was a 6 month subscription, specifically for the conversion exam, ATPL to ATP) and it was well worth the money.... they h...

Re: Interview questions
The interview is panel style (3 people, one from HR).
There is no sim eval. There's usually no immediate "yes" or "no" following the interview, but if successful, you will be contacted later on with a GS date or info that you're in the pool.

Re: Getting hired with low multi time
Porter has hired many guys and gals off PC12s. If you have no turbine/two-crew time, however, I suggest trying to get on at Bearskin, Thunder, Air Bravo or Ornge, for example, to get your resume more competitive. You need up to 1000h more total time to be truly competitive at Porter, especially if t...

Re: Commuting at Porter?
Drafting can only happen if you answer your phone while on a "grey" day off (above your 10 guaranteed) or if they assign it to you while on duty the day before. Your "guaranteed days off" are protected - in that case, you have the right to refuse a draft, with no penalty.

Re: Commuting at Porter?
What Grey Wolf says is correct, but do keep in mind that there is no official commuting policy... i.e. if you don't make it in for work, you have to book off. At the beginning you can expect to be on a reserve block which gives you 10 days off a month, and depending on where you are seniority-wise, ...

Re: Porters version of a cadet program
What kind of schedule do pilots normally work? Would it be possible to commute? I've always thought Porter would be a great place to work but I've hesitated to apply because my family situation precludes moving. Schedules are bid for each month and what you get really depends on your seniority. 10 ...

Re: Cuba
Whenever I've ferried aircraft (albeit, larger ones than a C172!) in that area, I've always made a point to skip Cuba and use the Bahamas as a "last" fuel stop before heading further south/SE/SW. However if you do want to stop in Cuba use a handling company as suggested above for your overflight per...
