Re: New Payscale

What is the schedule like on that pay? Rotational schedules in 703/704 world (14/14 or 7/7) usually mean working 12 out of every every 28 days or about 13-14 days per calendar month. Granted Porter pilots aren't deicing their own King Air in North Fort Lake, but schedule is an important part of the ...

Re: Approx Net Pay - First Year Q400 Captain

Makes sense for a Encore/Jazz captain with a couple years up the pay scale to want a similar pay level in another job flying a similar airplane on similar routes. Whether the airline (Porter in this case) can offer it is a different question. It would sure be nice if we could all get industry years ...

I guess the most fatiguing job in our industry doesn't need fatigue protections

Back and forth across the clock, constant on call after min rest. Medevac operators must have a strong lobby group.

Re: ATAC Requests Gov't Suspend Duty Regs

Almost, but we're forgetting that flights conducted VFR don't need to care about leg count, 700.28(9). Start at 6am, that's a 12 hr day for 1 leg or 20 legs if they're all VFR. Quite reasonable I'd say. In glad the industry lobby group struggles with reading comprehension as well as ignoring the CAR...

Re: Recent WestJet ALPA video for all pilots

Lol so many disgruntled pilots who instead of using facts just called names. Told you don’t deserve a raise. All you need to do is show me why economically within The financials you need significant raises. Our market doesn’t support it. I’ve shown you and read airline financials and torn them apar...

Re: Recent WestJet ALPA video for all pilots

The wealth gap is growing. Executive salary is significantly higher in relation to the front line worker than it used to be. Does an airline CEO really need to make 100x more than an airline pilot? Does a grocery store CEO really need to make 250x more than a stock boy? Does an oil company CEO need ...

Re: PC-12 Engine Failure Glide to Runway

The issue with the King Air is the private operators in the US. Got a big bank account? Here, have a King Air. Twins are much more difficult to handle with an engine out than a single. Run a shutdown drill, that one probably hasn't practiced in over a year, while wrestling a plane that's trying to r...

Yes and no. Doing the same work? Porter should pay their E2 pilots more than Q400 pilots. Or is this a Dash8-100 flying around with the pilots unloading it and spraying the ice off themselves? Get "pilot pay" plus ramp pay plus deice crew pay, plus fuel tech pay, plus check-in agent pay. Northern p...

Re: Captains of the North, what make you stay?

From my experience the majority of the northern lifers stay for many reasons, and most of the time it’s not financial and not by choice. My experience has been the opposite. Many northern lifers I know never even applied to southern airlines. They stay for the lifestyle the north offers. That lifes...

Re: Westwind

Then what's the solution? Did anyone actually read the report? Appendix M talks about the majority of northern pilots taking off contaminated. This is bigger than a couple bone heads in the driver's seat. I get it though. It's easier to scape goat two pilots than acknowledge the true scope of the pr...

Re: Westwind

Nope. Crashing a plane in the north every couple years due to contaminated take-offs is a tolerated risk by industry. It's cheaper for the bean counters to stick their head in the sand (snow?) and ignore the risk. It's always someone else's airplane that crashes anyway, so "not our problem, we haven...

Re: WestJet statement on Goverment funding for AC

I think it was a polite way of beating around the bush and say that WJ doesn't want the strings attached to those loans. Basically telling the government negotiators that they can take those conditions and shove it because they're better off alone.

AC now has a competitive advantage over WJ and the others domestically. Nothing at all involved ensuring AC could continue to compete internationally. Aren't they supposed to be an international airline? We make fun of Americans for ignoring the outside world, but soon the only way to travel interna...

Re: Why do twin piston aircraft not have a barber pole?

There's limiting factors other than critical mach number. As it's been said, Mcrit isn't really a factor at M0.7 and below. Aerodynamic flutter is a combination of TAS and IAS, and is roughly mid-way between the two. Are manufacturers required to flight test aircraft at all corners of the envelope? ...

Re: Air Canada and Transat A.T. Inc agree to terminate Arrangement Agreement

If the government is going to get all horny about saving Quebec jobs, one would hope they will think more broadly and look at the whole industry. I also worry about those who used to work at WJ, and nobody made a political move to save their jobs.

It might make sense for a crewmember to be familiar with, and check the cargo fuel system before departure when hauling fuel...... Re: PC12 on condition?

There's a reason they're not popular outside Ontario. King Airs burn more fuel, have two engines to maintain, but are actually comparable on operating cost. This is due to the PC12's maintenance costs and parts cost. The PC12 is popular in Ontario because of politics and a rigged system to specifica...

Re: Porter Airlines shifts restart of flights date to June 29

Yeah, they had nowhere to store them. Porter has most of YTZ to store airplanes. Storing planes isn't anything new. They'll do what the manuals need and it will all be okay. Either way, I can't wait to fly Porter again. I wish they'd be able to make a go of it flying west. The east coast has their b...

I've had the opposite. ATC seems to be particularly keen to deny requests recently. Overworked after staff cuts, I don't know. It's frustrating when seemly benign requests get denied at increasing frequency.
