Most helicopter companies will hire apprentices, whether they advertise it or not. You want to work there so just apply.

Re: FAA and Owner Maintenance
Again, the accident rate data from the report only reflects the number of a/c vs. the number of accidents, a complete bullshit statistic. Let's see the accident rate data for the number of accidents vs. the hours flown on type. They don't want that to be shown because I'm pretty sure that the rates ...

Re: FAA and Owner Maintenance
I know what the regs are, but most don't, nor would care to follow them. We aren't talking about experimental/exhibition, light sport, vla or homebuilt a/c here CS there are categories for almost anything, the OM cat was created for antiques with little or no data available to keep the legacy going,...

Re: FAA and Owner Maintenance
Oh those are great statistics, unrealistic but great. I would hazard a guess that a large portion of O-M aircraft don't fly that much (under 25hrs a year) or even at all, what are the accident rates per hour flown? And you can't tell me that there hasn't been incidents where the wrong parts or impro...

Wow, that would have to be the most uneducated, non researched article that I've seen in a long time. STARS is the name of the company, not the mission profile. Also, the nice thing about helicopters is that they can land almost anywhere, even a parking lot next to a hospital, don't need pads, but t...

It's a base salary of about 50,000 a year. That's still well above the poverty line. But since everybody is making 100000 a year these days i guess it's low.

Aside from having the qualifications, it also helps if you know or are related to someone in the MNR to give you a "reference".

Re: Problem with JPI EDM930 fuel indications
Step 1: Confirm calibration of the EDM in the a/c Step 2: If you can't calibrate it properly, check the a/c wiring and fuel senders individually for proper output/resistance (you may find that one of the senders is erratic or has dead spots) Step 3: Replace EDM with a known functioning one. I have s...

I think you're looking for that other country to the south of us. For what you want to do you are better off just moving to the u.s., buying somebody's existing operation and getting them to show you the ropes in the extremely dangerous world of low time jet pilots with little or no qualifications t...

Not so funny if you're sitting in the same row as these clowns. Why couldn't they just go into the blue lagoon for a blumpkin?

85$/hr for a light helicopter. GO AHEAD AND TAKE YOUR AIRCRAFT TO MEXICO OR THE U.S. FOR CHEAPER RATES, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AND GOOD LUCK GETTING THEM TO COME UP TO YOU IF THERE IS A PROBLEM AFTERWARDS. Try and support your local shops people, you have decided to spend the money on buying an a/...

Power Loss Leads to Ditching Bell 206L-3. Destroyed. One minor injury. The pilot had departed from Maungakaramea, in northern New Zealand, to check fishing conditions in Bream Bay the afternoon of Jan. 20, 2011. He was cruising at 110 kt and about 1,000 ft above the bay when the engine surged and r...

Re: Mags left on accident
It is good practice to never turn the blades backwards for many reasons and to always treat the piston engine as if it was ready to fire. This incident sounds like a failed start attempt, wouldn't be the first, I remember one on a float equipped cessna where the plane blasted across the lake and int...

Re: AME-M vs AME-S
I think you want to go the structures route. Less travel, less variety, sameish pay, you might be able to stay in SO too.
You can start with the M and get a basic understanding of structures to see if you want to go that way also.

You know the industry is really slow when this is the only topic being discussed. This issue is nothing new, nor do people really care when things are booming. But, who is this foreign group? NZ's, Auzzies, europeans? are we being flooded by the chinese? There is just not enough work for everyone ri...
