Re: Air Canada Selects Air Georgian
I'm hearing from a Georgian pilot it'll be $55,000 for Captain, $28,500 for FO to start.

Re: Air Transat hiring
Furthermore, it's not a problem to give preference to people with type ratings... it will be a problem though if we bring in foreign pilots to fill those spots. I really doubt that will happen, seeing how vocal Transat was in regards to this issue. But that's just my opinion.

Re: Air Transat hiring
They did some interviews last week. I know one guy who was hired into a pool (he had no type rating). Right now I believe the company will give preference to CJ pilots who have applied, calls have gone out this week for more interviews. There's not enough 737 typed pilots who've applied to fill the ...

Here's an article about CHT vs EGT. I haven't flown a plane with a mixture control in years, so I hope his logic is correct.

Re: Cylinder Cracking
At altitude, your temps are low and your likely at a very low power setting, so your engine will be cool. Going full rich right away will cause it to cool further. Leaning it will keep the temps warmer.

Re: Air Transat hiring
Being bilingual is a benefit no matter where you are. Being trilingual is even better! The majority of pilots/employees here are bilingual, but there are indeed some who are not, including captains. My interview and sim were done in english. During groundschool they would ask if people preferred to ...

Re: Aviation Booklet Renewal
Mine expires in February. I sent in my application mid October. Got my new license in the mail about 2.5 weeks later.
Then again, I sent my application in to my company, and they dealt with TC directly, so maybe that explains why it happened so quickly.

Good news for the TS pilots, layoffs are cancelled and some guys start 737 training in November.

Re: Air Transat Layoffs
I suspect the poster is talking about a flight attendant. No pilot here that's been on property for "over 3 years" has received a layoff notice.

Re: Air Transat laying off pilots
Serious question, why are FAs beginning their training now, when it can be done in a week? Is it possible AT is laying off the pilots, hoping they(some) will be hired by CJ and then recalled in the spring with a fresh type rating already? I doubt it since even if the pilots had a type we'd still ha...

Re: Air Transat laying off pilots
Layoffs suck, but much better then the company going TU. Question though. I had sim in Yul early summer. There was a new hire FA class for Transat there as well. They all said they were being hired for the 737's. Were they incorrect? FAs haven't been hired here in over a year. They were likely reca...

Re: Pan Pan
Depending on the type of airplane you fly, a Pan Pan could be for something like an engine flameout, a loss of instruments/equipment, slow loss of cabin pressure not requiring an emergency descent, etc If one of the FAs tells me the coffee-makers are all down, Id consider this a Pan Pan too. Some pe...

Re: Guaranteed Airline Interview
Getting a guaranteed interview for forking over all that $$ for training is like having a hot girl come up to you at a bar and promising to give you her number if you buy her a drink. You might get the phone number, but it doesn't mean she will ever answer her phone.

Re: Pressure Pattern Navigation
You're asked to deliver an older airplane that has no cruise performance data in it's POH. It has a 180hp engine. You're told it cruises at 90 knots. It has a 24 gallon gas tank. In zero wind, how far can you fly before you should stop for fuel? I recall a rule-of-thumb for using your Bhp to approx...

360kts= 6NM/min. So you would need about 42kt xwind comp to get a 7 degree crab?Colonel Sanders wrote:

Re: Pressure Pattern Navigation
It's pretty easy, actually. At 180 knots, you notice that you need 15 degrees of crab on the heading, to maintain the correct track with your GPS. What's the crosswind component of the wind aloft? How would you determine the actual (entire) wind aloft? Xwind component would be 45kts? The formula I ...

FOs year 1 is $50,000, up to $71,500 by year 7. Captains year 1 is $90,000, up to $132,000 year 7. If you get bumped off the 330/310 onto the narrowbody you keep your current payrate for a period based on your years of service, up to a maximum of 5 years.

Re: Recalll aircrew AT
A small number of pilots were recalled last month; there is still a fair number of guys on furlough; however, most of them have found other jobs. The only recalls we will likely see for the summer are to replace pilots who are leaving. There was 1 pilot recalled in April I believe. Maybe a handful o...
