Re: GA Pilots: Make your voices heard. Block Function

Rookiepilot, The first paragraph of your opening post was positive and engaging, and drew me in. It is the type of sentiment I feel, and would also like to encourage here. I like positive discussion about aviation, which engages the group, and grows a feeling of comradery! Is there anything you have...

Re: GA Pilots: Make your voices heard. Block Function

I see a problem. If anyone voted for:
So far, the vote is for continued anarchy, rewarding the trolls, and against increased civility
.....I didn't see it! I don't think anything I posted pointed toward that at all - so why is what I did post being characterized that way?

Re: GA Pilots: Make your voices heard. Block Function

I've read the proposal, and comments. This is not the first time this has come up. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I have mine. I think that a change to the nature of the site is a solution looking for a problem, and not necessary. I will now use a word in a reply, which I have not felt t...

Re: A lifetime of learning when to fly....

I had the ¨pleasure¨of having one as my first ever student. And this is a theme of my post, a newer instructor who may feel intimidated by an established businessman type, who tends to dominate most situations he enters. It is an untrained instructor moral duty to be alert to people, whom even comp...

Re: A lifetime of learning when to fly....

Geeze... Does this thread need moderation? Can't we just conduct ourselves with courtesy to the others who also make the effort to comment? It'd be nice to look respectable to the many people reading this, but not commenting! What must they think about a bunch of pilots poking each other for no good...

A lifetime of learning when to fly....

Two recent posts from Pelmet and cncpc on the PA-32 crash thread hit the spot well... so well I think that the topic of "when to fly" is worthy of more consideration beyond the discussion of that sad event. One of my many pilot mentors once said to me that it takes a few dozen hours to learn how to ...

Re: Float Plane Crash Lake Simcoe

Yes, Lake Simcoe is less certain to have calm enough conditions, but sometimes it does, and often in more protected areas. The pilot was familiar with the bodies of water, so I'm sure made his decision with forethought....

Re: Definite Stall/Spin Accident

Are the flaps fully deflected in the photographs (or video)? I don't think so.

I also don't recall difficulties with a go-around when a student forgets to raise the flaps.
I agree with both points. You do have to lower the nose though.....

Re: Definite Stall/Spin Accident

Control lock in?
Certainly a worthy consideration, but if I recall, the control lock on a 150/152 holds the elevator in a lower position than would enable a pitch up like that. Maybe someone with a 150 can comment?

Re: Ouch! That Had To Hurt!

I’ve flown into Nelson on the KA 350 couple of times, it’s really not that tight for landing even with a couple kts tailwind ... Fair enough, I have never landed there. The video makes it look short, coupled with the possible excuse that a pilot was trying to squeeze the plane into somewhere short,...

Re: Ouch! That Had To Hurt!

Became worried as the video dragged on they were gonna line up and take that plane flying again. It is (unconfirmed) reported elsewhere that the plane took off three hours later. That's enough time to change something, but not a nose strut! Too short a runway for the airplane, confined approach(s),...

Re: RHO/RHO - RHO/THETA Questions on SAMRA

I think digits_ did try to make that point. Perhaps lost in translation Where they cross, that's the location of the waypoint. "Waypoints" might have reduced confusion. As the exercise is to perfect navigation thinking, being aware of the probable second "ghost" waypoint would be wise, it would not...

Re: RHO/RHO - RHO/THETA Questions on SAMRA

Draw a circle with radius 40 nm around Calgary and one with radius of 150nm around Edmonton. Where they cross, that's the location of the waypoint. Pedestrian type question, don't the two intersecting circles have two intersecting points on the radii, and thus there would be two possible "waypoints...

Re: TC license authorization for a once off ferry of a Panama registered aircraft

I expect that TC will not be interested in the license you hold to fly a Panama registered airplane outside Canada. You should inquire with the Panamanian authority for the temporary license, as the plane is in their registry. Though I stand to be corrected, my understanding is that once the plane i...

Re: FAA issues special airworthiness certification for flying car

I'm not big on Gen Z expressions, but in this case: OMG! Every certified aircraft I have ever flown was capable of meeting the prevailing design requirement of being able to land without engine power. Has society (represented by the FAA) now decided that that basic safety need is no longer necessary...
