Re: Porter Airlines E195 ground school 2023
I don’t think it’s recurrent anyone has a problem with. It’s the initial. Most people coming to fly a q for $40k are probably coming from a job outside the GTA. It’s pretty inconsiderate of them to not provide accommodations for the initial. Obviously the vast majority of people in the industry agre...
Re: Vote
Good job guys! I thought the yes vote would be higher but impressive nonetheless. I’m not sure why anyone would vote against a strike.

Re: Lynx WAWCON
Flair Plus 1% for hourly at MMG of 75h is the PLAN. Still on a daily rate currently. Reserve will be 19 days a month and everyone else will be working 18 days a month. It’s rare to fly more than 75h currently unless you work on days off. So more work for less pay than flair or Porter. 😧😧😧. If my sc...

Re: Annual Inspection Interval: 12 months or 365 days?
Actually that standard is informational only and has no legislative authority. I would belive that it was defined in the standard because of section 28 of the Interpretation Act which states: Where there is a reference to a period of time consisting of a number of months after or before a specified...

Re: Interview dress code
I was always told to dress a step above what you will be wearing for the job. Business casual job, wear a shirt and tie, shirt and tie, wear a suit, etc. so obviously for a job with a Pilot uniform you should wear a tuxedo to the interview. Go all the way and get a cummerbund.

Re: AIP Canada
Due to the fact that it was not ICAO compliant, the old Transport Canada issued AIP (TP 2300E) needed to replaced. In 2005, two separate documents were created as a result. These were the AIM, which remained under the authority of Transport Canada, and the ICAO compliant version of the AIP, which f...

Re: Deployment pay
Sort of unrelated, what do pilots with family/kids do when deployed for these situations? I can’t imagine in every situation being able to bring your family along depending on the circumstances. Is it hard on family life? A lot of people bring their whole family for the entire deployment, some have...

If you were looking to lease aircraft as a start up airline, would you do business with a relatively new entrant to the aircraft leasing market knowing this is how they would treat you? Airborne or whatever the hedge fund is calling themselves have just sent a pretty clear message what they are goi...

Re: Chickens come home to roost for Flair Airlines
Do we know for sure they can't make the payments? I mean, they have 777 Partners behind them, who have deep pockets... Could be a case of he said she said. I heard they're taking 3 planes out of desert parking to replace those "blocked planes". Any truth to that? Flair’s Chief Executive Officer Ste...

Re: Porter Airlines E195 ground school 2023
It’s not even about the commuters. When I made the move to YYZ, half of my course we planning on moving to YYZ but were coming from other places. If I was offered the job based in YYZ but not provided any accommodations for the course I wouldn’t have been able to take the job. I knew nobody in YYZ a...

Re: Smaller Westjet vs Pay Pilots
To state the obvious, in case of a strike by WestJet pilots, Sunwing, not to mention Encore will continue flying in accordance with their contracts and carry the load, which would be quite ironic given the bargaining capital WestJet MEC has put in negotiating for Encore!! Even if that were the case...

Re: Sunwing/Westjet
Great, now they can go on strike together! I would think that WG pilots still being Unifor would make it very difficult for them to go on strike at all, since they haven't filed for conciliation and their contract isn't up for negotiation. Merging them into ALPA is going to be a significant hurdle ...
Re: Be Ready
I saw a clip from your town hall today where the CEO talked about the contract negotiations. I lol’d when he talked about parking airplanes rather than paying. What a dick head. Screw him. Don’t back down!

Re: How many WS pilots want YUL?
Pilot4life, All we are being told right now is the same as the pilots at Sunwing. That upon closure we will continue to operate independently. Over the years at WestJet when the question of a YUL base has been proposed to those making the decisions, the response has been consistent - will never hap...

Re: Recruiting Video
Back to the thread. The last ground school had 5 new hires in, the latest class has a grand total of ZERO. That's right. They had to cancel, sorry "postpone" the course. So now WJ can't find a single pilot willing to come here. All the while we lose 1 pilot every day on average. At this rate they w...

Re: Airline Support Aircraft
It happens at Sunwing once in a while when shit hits the fan. I’ve been deadheaded in a king air and a challenger. I’d probably book off if I was going to be deadheaded in a single engine airplane. I know PT6’s are reliable but I also know plenty of people who have had them fail. Lol.
