Re: A C140 is not a Cub...
Thanks everyone. You're right, I have a bit of a love affair with the cub. I was just really surprised that the C140 was such a DIFFERENT feeling than the cub to me. That said, it meets the mission requirements. I think I may endeavor to get some more time in one before writing it off. I'd LOVE to g...

According to the above link:
"OPP have identified the deceased as 47-year-old Russell Hawkins of Guelph."
I didn't know him, but I knew of him.
My condolences to his family and friends. This is terrible news.

Re: Float Aircraft down near Puslinch Lake, ON Oct 25 2012
The Hamilton Spectator, 680 News and 570 News are confirming one dead. I have some friends who fly on Puslinch Lake, I haven't been able to get in touch with them. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who have been injured/lost. If anyone knows anything, I'd really appreciate a PM.

Great conversation on this one guys. Thanks for all the valuable insight.

A C140 is not a Cub...
I'm still on the hunt for that elusive first airplane. I started with a survey http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=83923 and after consulting with a few pilot friends was confident that a C140 would meet my mission and budget requirements. I flew a beautiful C140 recently, and afterw...

Re: Commuter tax question
Are you self employed as a pilot? Then you can obviously claim it as a freelancer or whatever. If you're an employee, you can request a T2200 from your employer which would allows you to write off work-related expenses. If you work regularly out of a base in Montreal, but choose to live in Ontario t...

Why isn't it a PAN PAN ?
It sounds like the threat was of them landing with less than the minimum reserve, not actually running out of gas.
Please don't flame me, it's an honest question.
I'll accept some flaming if you tell me it's a stupid question.

Wife. We flew over Waterford which is her hometown. Even saw her parents house. I think her dad waved to us with a towel from the house. I remember trying to slow down the 172 so she could get a good look and her having a hard time spotting the place.

What airplane do you buy with $20-$30K?
Hello informed aviators. I have 170 hours, an "ok" income and an itching to purchase an airplane - it is a buyers market after all. I know, airplanes are never cheap, and I'm working with some experienced mentors to make the right decision, but I thought I'd poll you guys and see your thoughts. So, ...

My condolences to the families, this is incomprehensible.

Re: Oshkosh July 23-29, 2012
I'm sorry I didn't follow the thread while I was on the field at KOSH. I'm home now after the long (16hr) flight in the J3 over the Sault on the way there and a two day weather delay in Waukegan on the way back (they have a big mall). Thanks to fleet for the help and the hospitality. What an amazing...

Which one of you put the low pressure system complete with thunderstorms between detroit and chicago for the next 1.5-2 days? Hmm? I'm currently considering re-routing via Sault Ste Marie to make Hartford for Friday night. Parry Sound to Sudbury in a J3 makes me nervous. Maybe I can fly to Tobermory...

J3-Cub Tie-downs for OshKosh
Hey Guys, I've searched the board and not found an answer to this question, I'm hoping someone might help me out. I'm flying to OshKosh in 2 weeks (I'm pretty excited) in a 1946 J3 (L4B). I've been reading the OshKosh Website and it calls for some fairly strong tie-downs. After researching online I ...
