Re: the race
That is an absurd offer. Good grief. I was making more than that as an apprentice 10 years ago. Double it and now we're talkin'.. You were lucky. 10 years ago I was offered minimum wage as an apprentice. I went to the oil patch and drove a truck for $27 hr plus overtime. Loved it! Now I'm an Artifi...

Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 - Missing
I admit to not having read all the posts here. So maybe this has been suggested already. But hopefully the missing folks families tried the "find my iPhone" thing asap. Just a thought.
I fly on the 777 all the time. It makes a guy worry about those mechanical or structural failure scenarios.

Re: Carrying Jerry cans of fuel in plane
Yeah me too. I used to move about 60 at a time in the Otter for one Manitoba camp operator. He was getting old and didn't like the 45g drums anymore. Once he pulled up to the dock with 18 cans in his Cessna 180 on floats and was smoking a "Captain Black". The cans without the vent cap leak almost no...

Not first class but business class yes. The AC7 & 8 between Hong Kong and Vancouver doesn't have first class. No problem. I sat in them once on a United Airlines flight with a really weird entertainer. Believe it or not the bankers are better

I hope they put that thing on the Vancouver to Hong Kong run to replace the 777 with those horrid "high density seats". Purely selfish reasons....

Happy 105th Canada!
Despite all the BS that is sometimes around I still like getting in the seat and flying in uncontrolled airspace.

What they don't know won't hurt you. I used to be up around the Thelon River and other remote areas a fair bit. Lots of big nasty tracks there. Carrying a piece on your hip is a little nuts for loading and and unloading but in the survival gear is a good idea. Let me know if you get a per...

I waited a year after the book first came out to get it so I'll miss the rush. Too bad about the "single pilot" rule with passengers though. I will still need to get mine done every six months by the sounds of it.

Give 'em hell. I was at Ducey today and looked at the airport thinking: "Just what we need, another mall or more housing. They will never be able to dig up the houses to add another airport.."

I did my lien search at the local insurance company/licensing office in Lloydminster. Nothing showed up. I believe the bank also did one.

Re: Barkley-Grow
One of the pilots I worked for in Temiskamie Quebec had a picture of a Barkley Grow on floats that he flew way back. It actually had what looked like a "Belvedere" cigarette ad painted on the side. I never asked him about it because he spoke only French and I spoke only English. He was a great Chief...

Re: Buying an Airplane For Dummies
That's a good system. I have a vintage Mooney. It's nice and simple. I reduce my maintenance costs a little by assisting on the annuals. The hanger is warm and dry but not cheap. The other day I went out for a quick flight and my King KLN 89 gps calved. It's a $600 exchange if there is an...

Re: Airplane not flown for 3 months
Lycoming has actually gone to roller lifters on new engines to try to deal with the spalling problem. You mean this problem? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/Lodestar_6/Lifter_zps19aa0c3e.jpg Yikes! I put my bird up for sale mostly because I don't use it enough and am developing paranoia in m...

Re: Airplane not flown for 3 months
Many of the floatplanes sit for 6 or 7 months during the winter. No big deal. I have a Mooney that flys one month on, one month off all the time. Same engine. It has 1050 hrs and just had a great annual. No metal, no compressions under 74. All good.

In Little Grand Rapids they called it a "bushtagan". The Beaver was a Bushtagan Amik, and the 180 was a Bushtaganess..

Re: Flight test examiner's status change
I agree with that. It has been a long time since I had a flight test of any sort, but I can't remember the examiner ever touching the controls. If anything the new rule would actually relieve the test subject of any chance of a lawsuit because if the DFTE let things get so far gone that there were i...

Re: Flight test examiner's status change
Good point. I had planned on using a school's instructor on my plane, but I expect they will have liability insurance. They would be nuts not to. Lawsuits, accidents, death, injury and dismemberment are a fact of life. That's why insurance companies are so busy. I've got business insurance, life ins...
