Re: Non aviation use of airport hangars
I know a couple of leased spaces that specifically state that hangars are to be for aircraft storage only. There's been a couple scenarios I can think of where non-flying toys caught fire and destroyed other people's flying toys. :smt093 :smt092 Yes I remember a large hanger in Whitehorse burning d...

Looking for work in Victoria area.
Hi Folks, I'm moving to Langford on the 4th of August. I'm looking for part time leading to full time work in the maintenance or flying business. I've got about 7000 hrs flying on various floating types including 5 seasons on the PZL Otter. I've probably got more hours helping out the mechanics plus...

Re: Float plane over turned in the wind
Lots. If the engine was immersed, you are looking at a tear down. If it was immersed and you didn't fill the oil and cylinders right to the brim with diesel fuel right away, it's going to be a very expensive overhaul. You'll have to completely open the aircraft, strip out the interior and insulatio...

Re: 20k min income
In 1993 line 150 of my income tax assessment showed $12,500. This for flying a 1 million dollar Otter for 5 months, and no hope of local winter work in the area. I stretched it out but with a non-working wife and a 1 year old child, things were tight. I specifically remember drinking only free beer ...

Re: Satelite Phone
I used Globalstar from Brown Lake Nunavut and chatted with my woman for about 10 minutes. The signal was great up there just like using a land line. Brown Lake is a couple of hours north of Baker Lake, NU. My information is 2006 vintage but if they have more satellites, it should be even better now....

Re: Floatplane door open in flight
I have had a few doors pop open on beavers before. I had a drunken American standing between the rear doors on an Otter in turbulence while he rummaged through the baggage trying to get another beer out. I had to restrain myself from stomping on the rudder that day...

Re: Another Ukrainian Plane Shot Down
If you Ukrainians need any pilots PM me. I've got lots of PZL experience I could fly an AN-2 anyways. Gotta stop that Russian advance.

Re: Victoria Multi IFR
Just got back in Canada after a Balikpapan Jakarta Singapore Hong Kong Vancouver Edmonton flying marathon. Right now I don't care if I ever see the inside of another airplane. However the buyer of my plane wants to get back to the Yukon so I will check home out tomorrow at 08:00 hrs. It's...

Victoria Multi IFR
I just sold my airplane so I'll have a little cash lying around. I'm considering doing my multi IFR and getting the ATPL after that. Can anyone tell me from experience if the Victoria School is any good? Are there other options? PMs are fine if you want to keep it confidential. I'd like to hear the ...

Re: Farewell and thanks for the fish.
Hey good luck with that. My airplane is sold on the 6th (maybe). I have decided to trade it in on a boat and go diving. We move to Victoria Aug 1st.
I hope you catch a big one

Re: Calgary's Giant Blue Ring
That could possibly be used to advertise the recent discovery of the "Gigantasaurus" in Argentina.... Perhaps we should start a class action lawsuit and make the city pay back the wasted money? I'm not from Calgary but in Lloydminster we have a bunch of Giant Orange Spikes, possibly "erected" by a p...

Re: Calgary's Giant Blue Ring
If the Romans or Greeks had built such an ugly thing, they'd still be laughed at:
It sounds like the City should reduce their taxes and eliminate the art budget. Has anybody ever considered suing these morons?
What is the inside diameter by the way ?

Re: Is this for real ?
...so I could see if they became loose Curious as to what you would do if they did become loose Usually the plan would be to slow down, pick a spot to land, and do it. As quickly as possible. Loose does not mean falling off. However, the Otter's high tail could possibly be a bonus if they did fall ...
