Re: 787 upgrade
For the Original Poster (Welcome to WestJet!) and other readers, I feel it would be helpful to provide a bit of a primer on how positions are awarded at WestJet. Every airline is different and without a bit of an understanding, the idea that it takes 9 years to hold a 787 FO position at WJ whereas r...

Re: 737 Toronto Base Future
With WestJet recently focusing more on western operations, is there a chance the 737 base in Toronto may eventually be eliminated? There’s always a chance, but my thinking is that it’s an exceptionally low one. During this transition to the western flying, the Executives have always been very clear...

Re: Having issues with Medical?
I lost my medical for about 14 months, a different RAMO at a later date reviewed my file and his exact quote was "it's ridiculous you lost your medical in the first place". I'm guessing that the RAMO that initially pulled my medical was the same one who pulled yours (former Atlantic/Overseas RAMO wh...

Did you appeal to the TATC?
And, do you have assistance through an cAME who does ONLY aviation medicals?

Re: Realistic upgrade time
Not only 10 years is reasonable but also it might increases. Just remember, if you are a new FO in WJ: 1- your upgrade time will be delay by almost 400 Encore pilots that will flow here and upgrade before you cause their seniority number bit yours With the cancellation of the PTA, only the 260 Enco...

For what it’s worth, on the pilot side of things I’ve heard they’re a pretty decent outfit to work for. However, while I don’t disagree with some of the comments regarding the job ad, does it surprise you? It’s an alcohol distribution company - the marketing “experience” in the booze business is sec...

Short answer: whichever one calls you first.
Longer answer: If you happen to get an offer from both, Perimeter hands down.

Avcanada mods allow this, and the angry comments in other posts, but delete the topic criticizing Transport Canada for lack of action on repetitive maintenance failures by a regional airline. AvCanada isn’t democracy or subject to Freedom of Speech. It’s a private, for profit website. If someone an...

Re: 312 flights cancelled in the last 4 days.
From the outside looking in, I'm actually pretty shocked that Jazz/AC let the situation get like this. Jazz seemed to be well ahead of the competition at bringing in new pilots and offering them reasons to stay. The exodus of Encore pilots to AC when WJ stopped flow should have been a giant red flag...

Re: Career perspective based on the long run
Hi, Apparently no topics covered this area, so let's do it. What are the current and expected timeline from junior 737 FO to 737 CA then to 787 FO and CA? Is there any relevant hope to compress this timeline bidding for certain bases? Do you have any idea about the standard evolution for a long ter...

Re: Is this a legitimate scenario?????
Oh I’m well aware of that. I have many friends at WJ. There were a couple WJ captains who were commenting on posts on social media saying nothing but BOTL was acceptable, I’m sure they are in the minority. Definitely the minority. While I don't condone those remarks, gotta remember that the wounds ...

But everywhere I've looked people are always like get a degree that you can use as a backup in case you lose your medical. Lot's of people say that, but IMO, it's pretty bad advice. Get a university degree because it's intellectually fulfilling. Intellectually fulfilling? Forgive me, what a dumb re...

Re: Is losing your medical common?
Also, is a 3 year bachelor's degree going to make any difference when applying to airlines? Or should I go for the 4 year honours bachelor? Absolutely not. As someone who lost my medical for a year, I would say that it's relatively common to lose your medical for a short to medium period of time. A...

Re: Is this a legitimate scenario?????
So basically once the merger is complete a WestJet Pilot would simply bid for a YUL base, if it becomes available, and move on over? If there is no fence and a vacancy becomes available, then yes, then award goes to the most senior person who bid for those positions. Exactly. But I do expect for ba...

Re: Is this a legitimate scenario?????
With the Westjet and Sunwing merger coming is it legitimate for people who want to work for WestJet go to Sunwing now? The Sunwing upgrade is basically as soon as you meet the min requirements while WestJet is still 10+ years. When the merger happens don’t Captains get protected? So basically In th...

What are your criteria? Most money? Lifestyle? Career job? Job security? How much experience do you have? Lifestyle, Career Job, and decent money for Canadian Aviation. Obviously you can’t have the best of all, but the best balance of the three? 5000 hr atpl. Thanks! Based on your criteria, I would...

This may be a stupid question but can you do these ‘sun‘ layovers from yyc or yeg or are these trips bid by those based elsewhere? Each base gets a pretty good mix of layovers. Very generally speaking, YYZ gets more Caribbean layovers and the western bases get more Mexico/SW USA layovers. You need ...
