Re: How long should I expect to fly before making it into the regionals
Hello, I was just wondering how long will it take for someone to make it into one of the regional airlines. For the sake of the post I just started my CFI job and want to go to the regionals. How long will it take (ex. 2 years) from personal experience or others. Thank you I see from your posts at ...

Re: Ottawa has agreed to financial relief package for Air Canada, sources say
So what is the solution for Canada's other carriers? Porter, Sunwing, Westjet and Flair are all privately held so equity stakes and capped executive compensation are probably off the table. Transat, as has been discussed here, may or may not find new ownership, needs funding and restructuring. That'...

Re: Air Canada and Transat A.T. Inc agree to terminate Arrangement Agreement
I'm sure there are multiple reasons for this deal falling apart, but the fact that the European Commission was the hurdle that couldn't be overcome really makes you wonder? What restrictions were placed on the British Airways/Iberia or Air France/KLM mergers? What concessions beyond what the Canadia...

I love it!! Guiding principle of my life here. Make your own destiny. Never take financial advice from a pilot: Exhibit A Pension plans offer avenues around the annual limits on RRSP contributions. Your an idiot. I own 6 buildings. I need only sell 3 for my retirement with positive cash flow from m...

Re: Air Canada Revises the Terms of its Capacity Purchase Agreement with Chorus Aviation for Regional Flying
The best pension plan is no pension plan at all. I’d MUCH rather have larger paycheques from work, and MAX out my RRSP/TFSA on my own, and pay down my mortgage quicker. Pension plans have been disappearing across the private sector for a reason. They rip off the company and employees for the profit...

Re: More WJ layoffs
Bit of a misleading title, it's more of a work-around (or fix) to outdated shipping laws. Like most people, I don't have a good grasp of maritime laws, but it seems like COVID boarder closures and restrictions are wrecking havoc on long established workarounds. Here's an interesting Nation Post comm...

Re: AC/TRZ Transaction Approved by TC - $5 per Share
At this point, despite Air Canada's losses the reduced purchase price alone should be appealing to AC to simply remove a big competitor from post-COVID landscape. Even if Westjet or another entrant eventually picks up some of the city pairings that AC is forced to relinquish, AC will be able to reco...

Re: Flair Summer Expansion
They will be in Kitchener, the Regional government is covering thousands in fees exclusively for Flair on all its routes other than to YYC which WJ serves. Clever move by Flair to ensure the larger incumbents can't pop into a small market like YKF and use scorched earth pricing. We'll see if it work...

Re: Potential Airline Bailout
Given the strength of the Conservatives in Alberta, I would say "very". I would not trust those guys. The Conservatives have met with Jazz, AC, WJ.. they’ve been pretty vocal on the lack of support for Canadian airlines. Jason Kenny has been supportive of WJ ( I know he’s provincial and not federal...

Re: Potential Airline Bailout
The airlines got bent over (again) today by JT. But he took the time to say nice things about them so let’s hope that a meaningful sector specific package sponsored by the Feds is not too far away. I think having a seat at the table is what the airlines were after. Flight to Mexico and the Caribbea...

Trudeau continued on to say, "In umm exchange for umm the massive overhead cost associated with umm parking aircraft the Federal Government will umm be providing a 8 billion dollar ummm sector specific aid package." Nope, never mind, just empty platitudes. I can't wait until next Fridays "Patio time...

I don't know Ken, I'd never heard his name before this election. While I think the association needs some new members, with new ideas to start carrying the torch. I don't vote for pilots running for MEC or NEM positions who have never done any committee work. I understand if other don't agree with m...

Re: Air Canada Hires Influencers Promoting Travel Amid Non-Essential travel Ban
Comparing Florida to Canada is pointless. The virus spreads easier in poorly ventilated indoor settings, in Canada (excluding the mild Vancouver region) it's too to stay outside so we gather indoors. Alberta and Manitoba had early second waves as it got cold in September/October and central Canada t...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Updated Purchase Price at $5 per share
Bit of a standoff going on between the Government and airlines. Airlines want money and a say in the countries travel restrictions and implementation. The government wants service to small communities and refunds issued. The government also has the merger approval as leverage over Air Canada but onl...

Re: Is the Gripen E a real contender?
Launchpad1, The F15EX is basically a F15SE without the canted tails. It is modeled on the F15 E. it has that the E’s heavy wing, and tandem seating. Except, the EX will be crewed by one pilot, with a hugely improved cockpit. It actually makes a lot of sense for Canada to look at this variant, if th...

All of social media's experts on epidemiology and vaccine production are going to have to dust off their non-existent textbooks on aircraft certification standards and tell everyone how they "won't be flying on it!!"

Omar Alghabra was the Parliamentary Secretary to the PM, so I wouldn't expect him to stray from the party lines. On the other hand political pundits are saying this appointment has implications for the next election and his Mississauga riding is far from a Liberal stronghold and FULL of households d...

When commuters are requesting the jumpseat because the flight is looking pretty full and we can wander around on layovers, without wearing masks, lo...
