Re: "Taxi only" flight
Bearing in mind we did not actually fly but did wreck two airplanes as far as logging the time goes in the aircraft logs there is no need because there was no flight....is that correct? I'm going with False, it goes into the Journey log but no Airtime is added to the aircraft. You would have to mak...

Re: "Taxi only" flight
CAR 101.01(1): http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/regserv/cars/part1-subpart1-1104.htm "flight time" - means the time from the moment an aircraft first moves under its own power for the purpose of taking off until the moment it comes to rest at the end of the flight; I'm not sure why one sentenc...

Re: Plane missing in Antarctica
Just saw this The wreckage of the Twin Otter aircraft missing in Antarctica since Wednesday night has been found. The aircraft wreckage is on a very steep slope, close to the summit of Mt Elizabeth. It appears to have made a direct impact that was not survivable. No details are available on the caus...

Re: Plane missing in Antarctica
Part of a plane missing in Antarctica may have been spotted but rescue crews are yet to confirm the sighting. A break in the weather has allowed planes into the area and ONE News understands part of the tail section of the plane has been spotted from the air. Meanwhile searchers still hope to findi...

Re: renew IFR
You may have a hard time finding an IFR certified single. If you do, get a checkout with the school and during your checkout do a hold and one approach, if that goes well do your flight test. There is no requirement for a recommend so don't let them talk you into "reviewing" your IFR if you feel you...

Re: Cirrus SR22 post CAPS deployment
Where is the pilot/passenger and no emergency personnel ? You can see a couple in the background, perhaps that is them. One would tend to think if that is the case you would not want someone with a camera loathing over your downed airplane with a camera. Very strange. The gentleman with the camera ...

Re: Calgary to Kelowna
Try and get as much altitude as you can so that you can hopefully see if the pass is clear on the other side because once you make the bend you are fairly committed, at least it felt too narrow to turn around to me! Good advice but for training purposes I always get my students lower in the valley....

Re: speed on ILS glideslope
Some days I have just got to shake my head at the stupidity that keeps creeping into the Training Forum, a ten page thread on Vx, another 10 pages on AoA, and now 2 pages (so far) on airspeed. Trey, Cat and CS all gave perfect answers on page 1 of this thread but people still don't get it. Cat you h...

Re: Hourly rate.
Just came across another thread and it shows what I mean by "Paying for experience" http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=86391 Most of the posters are instructors, read the replies by the posters in this thread and then then the other thread. Now tell me who you'd pay $100/hour for and...

Re: Hourly rate.
On the PPL level maybe it wouldn't make a difference, I haven't done a PPL now for 5 years. What freelance instructors bring over Flight school instructors is a flexible schedule and you're not on a assembly line of students on a 2 hour slot. But mostly experience outside of the circuit and practise...

Hmm, thanks Lurch, I coulda swore I saw "Slower traffic keep right" signs in Alberta. I was clearly mistaken. :) Makes ya wonder what else I was wrong about....huh? Well I didn't post anything stating it you were right  There are "Slower traffic keep right" and "Keep right except to pass" sig...

Re: Hourly rate.
A big +1 to Trey's post
If you go into Freelance instruction thinking you can have the same 2 hour back to back schedule as you did at the flight school you'll be out of business very quickly.

Re: Callsign first of last when replying?
Ahh, I was told to say all five letters until ATC shortens it to three, then I can use those three too. I've stuck with it since. That is correct, except it's you must say the last 4 letters until ATC shortens Canadian Private Civil Aircraft and Canadian or Foreign Carriers Without an Assigned Radi...

Re: Callsign first of last when replying?
Okay, all pissing around aside When I'm ready for departure all I say is "C-GABC is ready to depart, 26." The "C" never needs to be spoken while in Canadian airspace  I almost say the same and at this point we're picking fly shit from pepper. "GABC Holding Short 26 Ready" I have found includi...

In Alberta and BC I do know it is illegal to drive in the Left lane. As is passing on the right but you'd never know by observation. I don't even think many police officers know. Actually it is legal in Alberta Overtaking and passing on the right 22(1) A person driving a vehicle may drive the vehic...

I highly doubt you'll have any trouble charging $100/hour. I have discussed charging this to my students and haven't had much negative feed back.

Re: Calgary to Kelowna
Hey HHI: Question about the Code: Why keep it tuned even if you drop below radar? Just wondering, as I've never heard that in either my flying or ATC work... If it's worthy, I shall do it forever more! Come to think of it- I rarely go 1200 when I'm enroute, but you spurred my interest... I am a CAS...
