Re: Medical Delays VFR YYZ Nov 2024
I was at the YYZ school today and spoke to someone who is on the IFR basic course. If I understood him correctly, he said there's one or two people on his course who don't have medicals yet, and they've been on course for almost 6 months now. The school is well aware of the Transport Canada delays. ...

Re: Fall 2023 Hiring Update
Not sure if Sunwing still does this, but when I did my initial training back in 2017, they not only provided everyone with a hotel in YYZ (even if based in YYZ), but they gave each SIM pairing a rental car for the duration of training if they lived outside of YYZ or didn't have a car at their dispos...

Re: Did you eventually return to flying, or did you never look back?
I've worked in the industry for approximately five years, and it seems like ever since I entered this field, progress has felt like taking one step forward and two steps back. My goal has been to become a 1000-hour Pilot, and I've been working tirelessly to achieve that. Recently, I decided to take...

Re: Medical Delays VFR YYZ Nov 2024
Hey everyone, Wondering if any of my hopefully fellow classmates are here and what their medical status is? I’m having trouble getting any answers from Transport Canada and I done my medical in July. I’ve now moved and I’m terrified I’m going to miss the certificate… :( Is anyone else experiencing ...

Meanwhile, another success story for a REGIONAL south of the border. I remember walking through the terminal at YYZ looking at those pilots making less than $30,000 per year to fly an Embraer and felt sorry for them. Now, they probably walk past Canadian airline pilots and feel sorry for us. https:/...

Re: Air Transat Ascension Academy pathway program
If you invest $160K at 18 and let it compile for 47 years at 8% (under historical average) it will be worth over $5M for retirement. That's assuming someone has $160,000 at 18 years old to invest for retirement, but you forgot what they'd do for income in the mean time. Still going to need to pony ...

Re: When to come back to canada
And, this thread gets weirder. 2 different accounts created almost 20 years apart say almost the exact same thing word-for-word, with just a few subtle wording changes. This is a bizarre thread. The short answer is probably yes. Depending on how many hours you have it is very likely you could slide ...

Re: Sunglasses: To Polarize or Not to Polarize
Never polarized for me as well. When I last bought some sunglasses at Sunglass Hut, the salesperson even asked if I was a pilot and cautioned me against polarized. When wearing polarized while driving, I can see the "streaks" of light in other cars' heated rear windows as well as mine. My flying sun...

This is if you believe that ALL license holders are active and haven’t quit flying for profit. I myself (ATPL) left Sunwing and flying as a career after being laid off during the pandemic, and I know others who have as well (including some who even made it to AC/WJ). Actually being home every night...

Re: Logging Co-Pilot time on Single Crew Aircrafts
Back at Air Bravo doing medevac on the PC-12, the Ministry of Health required 2 pilots, so the company SOP's were written that way. Captains had a PPC, and F/O's had a PCC. When I left, the Chief Pilot gave me a letter stating that all time in the right seat can be logged due to their SOP's. If doin...

Re: TUI style
it is good for the company not the pilots, simple really. Of course it's good for the company. A company (ANY company) isn't going to hurt itself by carrying extra staff it doesn't need. And, you're saying it's "not good for the pilots," but it looks like you actually mean it's "not good for the th...

You are 2 aircraft short for the busy times and that is the crew that should be hired and working year round, this only benefits the company by not carrying extra crew during the offseason. Every other airline except Sunwing has the burden of carrying extra crew and aircraft for the slow period and...

Re: Too much in a hurry to wait a little bit for wake turbulence separation?
Lets say runway is 1nm long, 206 rotates 0.1nm down the runway, 737 rotates 0.5nm. Assume 737 initially climbs at 150kt at 2700fpm (1100ft/nm), 206 at 90kt 750fpm (500ft/nm). By the end of the runway, the 737 will be at 550ft and the 206 will be at 500ft if I've calculated it correctly. Neither wil...
